Elementary: Donald Duck in Mathematic Land
High School: To Kill a Mockingbird, The Grapes of Wrath (in both English and history like they didn't communicate with each other), The Bad Seed (in beginning drama), and we talked our Econ teacher into showing Trading Places.
Elementary school: The Land Before Time

Middle school: The Sandlot

High school: We didn’t watch movies a ton EXCEPT in Spanish class where I had a teacher who was obsessed with Like Water for Chocolate (for 10th graders, mind you), Fools Rush In (?), and Smoke Signals (unrelated to Spanish at all)
Now I need to know what movies people were shown in school on movie days or when the teacher didn't feel like it.

• The Ten Commandments (many times)
• Ben-Hur (at least twice)
• The Breakfast Club (my high school loved this one)
• Remember the Titans
• Monty Python & The Holy Grail (idk, man)

If I ever knew this, I had forgotten it. Louisa May Alcott (and her father), C.S. Lewis, and Madeleine L'Engle were all born on November 29. That WAS my childhood reading. (I read lots. Those were the ones I read over and over again.)

After months of so many people coming to food distribution we had to shut down early because we ran out, today it was very quiet. Wondering if word has gotten around we have less food so they don't make the effort. Also wondering if they are simply afraid to come to a known, publicized gathering.

Working on a memorial service. When I asked about music, a daughter said she would like to"those songs we sing during communion" (Taizé Refrains). As I prepare my words, I am liking the flow and meaning the refrains bring. I'll see after, but I might recommend this.

What is a gender non-conforming haircut? It makes no sense. Short, long, whatever. It doesn't signify anything. Styled? (In our family, hair is a personal choice. I don't comment on my spouse's; nor he on mine. Kids can ask for cuts or not. THIS is insane. (But all of it is, so no surprised.)
We reported on this a few days ago, but I want to point out this headline because this is where we are at.

A bill in Arkansas would ban gender affirming HAIRCUTS for transgender youth.

HAIRCUTS.

This is a straight up North Korea state sanctioned hairstyle proposed law for youth.
GOP bill could ban hairdressers from giving gender-nonconforming haircuts to minors - LGBTQ Nation
The bill would allow anyone to sue someone who affirms a young person's transition, and it specifically mentions hairstyles.

Gearing up to call AAA again. The boy finished his online course on 1/5. We are still waiting for his physical certificate so he can take his exam. Lots of drama from AAA. 3rd time, still not here. Calls, emails, etc. This has become a Quest. Send good vibes.

Trying to write about Lent for the February/March newsletter (I'm the one who made it a bimonthly newsletter). I feel vague and threadbare. We're um, talking about Jesus, um, yeah. who do you say I am? He says, I am... Takes about 2 inches of space.

If I can get the syllabus wrapped up today, I can print it when I am on campus for an in-service day tomorrow. Will I do it? Can I give myself a deadline like that? (Semester starts Tuesday; my first class is Wednesday.)

1991, ST:TNG ListServ through the university server. Was supposed to be working on programming I didn't understand. Read and posted about ST:TNG instead. Was active on those lists when the Great Bird of the Galaxy, Gene Roddenberry himself, died. Got a D in the class.
Okay, let's get nostalgic

What was the VERY FIRST online platform that you became addicted to posting on?????

Parenting is fascinating. Today 17yo is at her fast food job and 15yo has plans to meet up with friends at the Farmers' Market. Such fascinating people they are becoming.

Had a really good service last night. 4 choir pieces, scripture, hymns, a reading, a very brief reflection, candles and silent night. People liked the way I put everything together. THIS is what I do, where my strength is. THIS is why I want to know what the choir is singing as soon as possible.

My spouse does the livestream camera for our church. Was wondering today how it would be received if he just focused on our 17yo through the entire bell choir piece. Just K2 ringing those high notes, nobody else need be seen. (I texted him my thought. He admitted he has considered it.)

re. importance of names: Before k&1st Mom took brother & me to see new school. His desk said Andrew. He looked at my mom & said "get that changed." She did. In the morning it said Andy. My son, age 3ish, called Ollie said "I Oliver." OK! When we serve communion by intinction, we ask people their 1/3

I once lived briefly in a house that had a whole-house vacuum. That thing was amazing. I think about that sometimes. And I wonder why the trend didn't continue?

Down from 86 to 70 items on my Canvas to do list. Why does grading take so long?

Weird skill I've acquired via my day job: I know the tune names to the hymns we sing. And I know the alternate tunes and which ones the congregation likes (often alternate to the one I like).
Weird skill I’ve acquired via my weird day job: I have memorized at least a hundred IATA airport codes.

Advent blessings to all who celebrate. This year the Sundays line up with the calendar with all the doors!

How many of all of you all get to sing these words tomorrow?
Crown him the Lord of years,
the potentate of time;
creator of the rolling spheres,
ineffably sublime.

For what it's worth, it's one of those rare years when secular Advent (December 1-24) lines up with Western Liturgical Advent (4 Sundays before Christmas).

Dear TiredKidsWon’tSleep,
I’m sorry I can’t help. Kendrina goes to bed at 9:00 so she can get up at 5 to do her mental exercises (homework) and prepare for her day. Olivarious puts himself to bed between 7:30 and 8:30 so he can arise between 3:30 and 4:30 to prepare for the day 1/2

I was looking at what movies are playing.
17you, getting ready to go to fast food job: we could all go to a movie tomorrow. (pauses) I gotta tell you though, I kinda put all my homework eggs in my tomorrow basket.
