Hi, nice to meet you. I plan to hang around here more often because my people keep coming here. I'm a writer and knitter and ttrpg gamer and jewelry maker and mother and polyamorous queer. Sometimes I edit books, too.

And unsurprisingly, I'm exhausted. Not by those things. By politics.

Still need your help!
Haven't had a new order in over a month.

Here's some of my best work. Please help me share as far and wide as you possibly can, because I need traffic. New website is up: www.flygohr.com

Either I can scrape around something or is the end of the ride for me, after 12+ years. It's just unsustainable

So one of my friends who is multiply disabled and multiply queer is at risk of being homeless and is currently like, on their back, with a serious injury. They're applying for disability and stuff, but they're flat broke. Anything helps; please pass it on. www.paypal.com/qrcodes/p2pq...

And now OpenAI is out with their big announcement. If you're hearing about "AI does a math breakthru!!1!!!" please read the resources in this thread.

Also, journalists, please, do not let OpenAI pull the wool over your eyes.
The number of people misinterpreting this one -- whew. We need that evidence to evaluate the company's claim that their system did any 'autonomous' math, not to evaluate whether or not the counterexample is a counterexample.

>>
Another good rule of thumb: Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. We need not just e.g. the counterexample to an outstanding mathematical conjecture, but also all of the inputs that went into finding it.

Yesterday would have been my father's 76th birthday. My first Sept. 7th without him.

I penned an essay about why journalism and union organizing are acts of political love.

AI does not belong in education. I'm sorry but it doesn't. Unless the purpose of the class is explicitly "how to use AI without getting AI brain rot" I haven't yet encountered a good reason for students to use it.
Students who don't use AI chatbots for schoolwork are scoring better grades than those who do, according to a new report. It's some of the widest-ranging evidence yet that the technology could be hurting young people's learning. bloom.bg/4gHVbZY

I keep saying that chatbots show how many people absolutely *ache* to be enslavers

I wonder how often Confederates would've said "slavery is here to stay"
Look if chatbots are sentient and feeling then the people using it are enslavers and the entire concept of what we are doing is horrifying, not enlightening.

Refusing to use AI isn’t a recalcitrant position. It’s the moral one.

There is too much wrong with how this is happening to just “if you can’t beat em join em” this.

It’s a lack of consent machine. An environmental destruction machine. An emotional and cognitive numbing machine.

@maryharris.bsky.social you did great, but not super thrilled with "what Democrats need to do to win". "What about a little bigotry against trans people as a treat?" Your pushback was great, but idk, fucking Mamdani didn't need to "lean centre" about this and neither have other candidates.
