Been meaning to share this, but it looks like those awful new National parks passes with Trump's mug on them are starting to circulate. If you need to cover it up (and comply with the rules) I made some sleeves that feature real Park art. www.scottwurzel.com/warehouse-or...

A british man who is an English prescriptivist. A rare one y'all
Minor point but I really hate this performative “y’all” people do to try and appear more folksy. I don’t type in a Yorkshire accent and I did people would rightly tell me to shut up.

Air traffic in DC not halted for Trump: Here's STATter911 video showing a jet taking off from DCA as Marine One leaves the Ellipse headed for Joint Base Andrews yesterday. The FAA is investigating why this occurred. youtu.be/KqkCophV3Ec?... #POTUS #Trump #DCA #aviation #marineone

Dozens of jobs! Dozens! (And less every year as automation and scaling tech progresses)
Hassett: "Data centers are very good for towns bc they create so many jobs & bring people in with high incomes that can buy houses & stuff like that. So if you take a sleepy town that hasn't seen much in the last 30 years & put a data center there, there are gonna be a bunch of happy residents."

One of the cool things that has happened with The Odyssey is that @emilyrcwilson.bsky.social is having a genuine moment in the sun and it so richly deserved. She is a brilliant scholar, a wonderful, caring Professor, and by all accounts a lovely human. Long may it continue- good for all of us.

Even if the details of this story are accurate, we only know about this because OpenAI thinks its good marketing.
OpenAI says its AI went rogue and launched 'unprecedented' cyber-attack
It is one of the first publicly disclosed cyber-attacks carried out by AI without direct human involvement.

"The flyovers containue until someone is maimed and we remember why we have rules."

(Who am I kidding, it's when there is property damage)
This is what you get when you make a Fox News weekend morning host the head of your defense department.

Trump opens a chain of gas stations, immediately bombs the middle east, spiking prices. Coincidence? Maybe. Profitable? Certainly
the average price of gas when Biden left office was $3.12. Trump wants to throw a parade for himself over one station where it's $3.47.

That's what you're calling a ship transiting SoH!? 😳
A Saudi-flagged crude oil tanker was damaged near the Strait of Hormuz off Oman after a Qatari liquefied natural gas tanker was struck in the same area.

The cause of the blast was not known, and the crude tanker was believed to be the supertanker Wedyan, the sources said.-Reuters

Only men who worship violence thrive in war, which is why the U.S. has a rich tradition of awarding the Medal of Honor to Quakers and Pacifists
Yeah you wouldn't want a logistics guy without any combat experience becoming commander in chief of the on of the largest multinational military forces in the world he'd probably mess it up
All four-star general nominees must now interview with President Trump. The goal is to "ensure they are war fighters first — not bureaucrats,” says the WH.
Some fear it could politicize the general officer corps.

When you've been calling the center-right Democratic Party "marxists, socialist, and communist" for decades, how is this strategy supposed to work now? I think far-right punditry has painted itself into a corner and I hope the new Dems roll them. (but I'm not optimistic)
lol come on now

Isabel Brown: "What we saw in Colorado yesterday mirrors... this lurch to the left -- even further for the Democrat Party -- embracing the radical ideas of socialism. This is the Mamdani effect. Here in Virginia, where I currently live, it's the Abigail Spanberger effect."

Why we let people form moral panics over what *has* happed vs what *does* happen, is maybe our greatest cultural failure.

What's old is new again. I remember when in the early 90s AI research was rebranded "Machine Learning" because people thought "Artificial Intelligence" sounded creepy and it was hurting grant funding. For a brief moment AI was back and the sexiest thing. Now serious researchers are retreating to ML.

Nothing says "open" like sneaking by in the dark of night with an armed escort.
US Interior Sec. Burgum reports Navy vessels are providing nighttime escorts for maritime traffic. Over 20 ships navigated the strait under this protection on select nights.
