What if the most disciplined thing you could do today was sit still?

Discipline isn’t white-knuckling—it’s the courage to stay. From finishing my novel to finally starting therapy, here’s how softening my definition changed everything.

Read the new post, "Stop Forcing It," at the link in bio!
Stop Forcing It: How Softening My Definition of Discipline Changed Everything
"The mind is constantly looking for an exit, a project, or a problem to solve. The practice of mindfulness is the discipline of giving it permission to simply be." — Jon Kabat-Zinn  When the yoga studio where I teach announced that September’s focus would be Discipline, my mind immediately did what I bet most of our minds do: it thought of rigidity.

Between 9 pets (and caring for them solo for a week), and an autoimmune flare-up, July’s theme of "Balance Postures" hit very different for me. 😅 Check out my latest blog post on finding breath through the chaos (and why dropping a ball isn't the end of the world)! 🐾🧘‍♀️
Finding Balance (Or at Least Not Falling Over)
When our studio theme for July was announced as Balance postures, I’ll admit I took a slightly different path with it in my classes. Sure, we explored a few classic balancing poses in my Deep Stretch classes each week, like Spinal Balance and Modified Side Plank with the extended leg lifted. But mostly, we used our time on the mat working on balanced breathing, tuning in, and gently noticing the places within our body and mind that felt a little off-kilter.

Does Chaturanga Dandasana (the Yoga Push-Up) scare you? Check out this post to learn how I weaved this pose into my Gentle Yoga and Deep Stretch during the month of March.
Deconstructing Chaturanga: Why Foundation Matters
Chaturanga Dandasana, or Four-Limbed Staff Pose, often intimidates yogis, particularly those practicing gentler styles. In March classes, the focus was on demystifying the pose through core stability, proper shoulder alignment, and using props. The goal was to cultivate understanding in the practice, emphasizing personal progress and safety over perfection.

Choosing Change, One Day At A Time
"Personal transformation can and does have global effects. As we go, so goes the world, for the world is us. The revolution that will save the world is ultimately a personal one." -- Marianne Wilson The theme for January at the yoga studio where I teach was transformation and change. It's fitting, because this is the time of year where many are focusing on goals and resolutions.

Your Inner GPS: Using Intention and Mantras to Recalibrate
"When your intention is clear, so is the way." ~ Alan Cohen Happy November, dear readers! Before I get into the meat of this post, I want to say that it's my anniversary as a yoga teacher this month! I achieved my first certification and taught my very first yoga class in November 2002...that's 23 years ago! Time has flown by, and I'm just as in love with yoga now as I was back then -- probably even more so, because when I first began my yoga practice, I simply wanted to destress and get into better shape.

Find Your Core, Find Your Center
At the yoga studio where I teach, the theme for April was the core, so the owner encouraged all the teachers to spend some time in each class weaving in this theme. Fed up with not being perfect all the time? Read on to learn more about why it's perfectly OK to enjoy (and even embrace) the messiness.
There’s No Need To Be Perfect
“I don’t have to be perfect. All I have to do is show up and enjoy the messy, imperfect and beautiful journey of my life.” – Kerry Washington I recently subbed a Slow Flow yoga class for another teacher and was excited to do it. I don’t teach a Slow Flow class regularly at the moment, and I love the format, so I always try to raise my hand when a subbing opportunity comes my way.

Facing Your Past with a Yin-Based Practice
“Your past is just a chapter, not the whole book.” – Jane Enright Excerpt from Self-Compassion, by Kristin Neff, Ph.D. In my last post, I talked about how I’m working on focusing more inwardly, so that I move through my journey in the ways that are most authentic for me.
