Should have put a bet on.
Oh and give Rhea Seahorn the Emmy already. Last time I was this sure, it was Jodie Foster in True Detective: Night Country. And I was right.

Got drunk enough to do the following- emailed Scott Adkins representatives telling them I'd got a script for them. Then direct messaged online to say I had 4 other scripts. Wish me luck. This is going nowhere. Never be English.

Being an adult means gradually watching your childhood heroes die. RIP Bill Oddie.

Jana Nayagan (Vinoth, 2026). Thalapathy Vijay's last movie- he's now CM of Tamil Nadu. The reviews have been all over the place. This is mine. This is an Indian progressive manifesto as movie- initial release was supposed to be before the election, which he won...

youtu.be/AFLcP-t0-kI?... Please watch this and stop talking about Nolan and CGI vs practical (bloody hell, it's tedious). Let Todd Vaziri (@tvaziri.com) educate you as he has done me.
NOLAN'S CGI is really just INVISIBLE CGI ("no CGI" part 6)

Lucifer (Season 1-6, 2016-21). Takes the Mike Carey comic (Gaiman gets credit but shouldn't) and creates a fascinating procedural that evolves into a character drama. All the actors are incredible. Features the best musical episode of all time as well. If you don't cry at the end, you have no soul.

Seeing the uncut Jana Nayagan with an Indian friend. I could not be more excited. And if you don't know him, get some Vijay into your life!

Karappu (2026, Balaji). The best film of 2026 so far. At the moment, India is Hong Kong in the 1980s and 1990s. Nobody else is making cinema this out there. And if you don't cry at end, you have no soul.

And both of my cats love each other very much.

The worst thing about discovering Indian cinema late in life is knowing you'll never catch up. The best thing is realising that if you find an actor or director you like, they've made at least 60 movies already (and reviews exist). Congratulations to Thalapathy Vijay on becoming CM Btw.

Villu (Deva, 1996). I've watched a lot of Tamil movies recently. This isn't the best, that's Ghilli, but it is fascinating- incredible fight choreography with melodrama and comedy but in a way that breaks all tonal balance. It didn't even resolve its sub-plots. Loved it. And definitely overhated!

My dumb ass cat has escaped- UK, hot, no air-con, doors open for ventilation- so now I have to sit outside to await his return. My life sucks.

The weather in the UK has been hotter than Texas (although thankfully the evening is cooling) so doing the @crobertcargill.bsky.social thing of watching movies al fresco (without the higher quality setup) with beverages. Can recommend. Bonus points if you recognise the movie.

Finally, after over 30 years, finished Babylon 5. Life, money and lethargy got in the way. Thanks to @straczynski.bsky.social for making one of the best sci-fi shows of all time. Sorry it took me so long. Also, one of the greatest final episodes I've ever seen.

Huge thanks to Scott @weinbergs.bsky.social for letting me appear on his fantastic podcast 'Overhated' to discuss the cinematic masterpiece that is Avengers (1998). You can listen now by signing up to his Patreon Weinberg+, which I recommend highly! Or wait about 4.5 years. I'd choose the former.

You either have faith. Or it's a sales pitch. Tragically, in the modern era, it's usually the latter.

Roof Culture Asia (Storror, 2017). Impeccable documentary documenting the parkour team Storror. Self-financed, team directed and self-edited. All on the budget of a Hollywood catering truck. A film that truly makes you believe a man can fly. And also that you shouldn't mess with the Tokyo police.

Closed Circuit (Giuliano Montaldo, 1978). Phenomenal Italian TV movie that should have played theatrically and be better known. It questions the complicity of film and violence. And doesn't answer those questions.. It would make a terrific double-bill with Anguish (Bigas Luna, 1987).

Take the wins when you get them. And recognise them as wins. They might be small. It doesn't matter. All you have to do is offset your losses. That's fucking life.

I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.

Loving the new series. And Always love it when a more obscure movie I've seen is recommended. I know of it due to Moviedrome (kind of a cult film version of The Last Drive-in on 80s/ 90s UK TV) with Alex Cox (my Danny Perry) youtube.com/watch?v=f7jN...
