Kind of a buried lede in the results of this Supreme Court approval rating poll from Marquette: Overall support for Supreme Court expansion, which even Democratic politicians were dismissing as "radical" just a few years ago, is now at 53 percent today.marquette.edu/2026/09/marq...

this, by the way, should be table stakes for any Democrat seeking office from now until the Republican Party has been completely destroyed and our political, government, and media ecosystems rebuilt and reformed so they no longer advantage far-right fascists

I'm torn. Streaming the execution is a terrible idea and I don't want it to happen.

BUT

John's right. The issue is with the killing itself. And if it's going to be done in our name, what right do we have not to deny to ourselves that it is?
You know what? Good.

We have spent years making the state killing of people both seemingly antiseptic and invisible.

This makes the brutality of the state killing in our name naked and undeniable.

They think they are being macho edgelords. I think it will horrify more than anything.
Pentagon says it will livestream firing squad execution of Fort Hood shooter
The execution would be the U.S. military’s first execution by firing squad since World War II.

Hegseth got the job not because of his clown antics on Fox News but because during the first term he made it his personal crusade to get Trump to pardon war criminals who had murdered civilians and desecrated corpses. That’s who he is and it’s what Trump hired him to be.
i am genuinely shocked by the psychotic bloodthirst on display with hegseth

Going through some of my Oscars skeets and wanted to expand on a few of the nominees mentioned. The below skeet mentions that art director Harry Oliver was nominated for his work on 7th Heaven (he was nominated the next year for his work on Street Angel as well). Some interesting notes on Oliver:
Those are the 3 Awards 7th Heaven won, tied with Sunrise which also earned 3. Harry Oliver lost Art Direction to William Cameron Menzies for his body of work that year (The Dove, and Tempest). It also lost Outstanding Picture (Best Picture, today) to Wings.

-Trump basically trying to incite a pogrom against Somalis

According to Google there are about 111,000 persons of Somali ancestry living in MN out of 5.8 million folks. That’s about 2%. Over half of those were born in the U.S. And we certainly aren’t letting any more in at this point.
Minnesota isn’t being “taken over”.
Trump tries to start a race war: "The once Great State of Minnesota is being taken over by Somali Immigrants ... The Somalians should not be allowed to get away with what they are doing. They view you as weak and stupid people. Fight back Minnesota, fight back!"

Rubio is petulantly annoyed because he gave this big speech in Athens about The Future of Western Civilization -- and coincidentally, on the very same day, his ambassador to Greece gets caught soliciting a donor to pay off her $100,000 credit-card bill.
Marco Rubio has a meltdown when asked about Kimberly Guilfoyle: "I'm not playing this game ... you guys are not gonna be our only source of information in the world. I'm sorry to tell you that. No... I don't even know if what you're reporting is true." (It's true! The Journal has her text messages!)

We estimate the U.S. brought in 16.7% of GDP in revenue and spent 19.4% of GDP on programs — producing a non-interest deficit of 2.6% of GDP.

Net interest came in at a record high 3.5% of GDP. 🧵

Conventional geothermal could be a much bigger resource than we’ve realized, with the potential to provide an enormous amount of power.

It provides firm, carbon-free power, with natural permeability making it cheaper to produce and modern drilling helping unlock more of it.

When colonization came to call in the US, many folks wrote about america as a pristine Eden whose forest were filled with delights and bounty. This was because indigenous folk (Like mine) built up food forest. Things that were razed and destroyed as a part of racist violence. Colonization is ongoing
To put this in perspective chestnut trees used to be dominant species in the United States. Billions of trees were killed by fungal blight and now fully grown America chestnuts are functionally extinct. There is no getting them back. Ever. All for a data center.
