The snow geese are back in the Skagit!!
When I was out at Summer Lake Oregon a few weeks ago surrounded by central flyway birds, I mentioned this winter migration. Geese and swans. Thousands of them. They chatter and hum, and when they lift the sky takes flight.

Don't think supply chains ever really went back to normal after the pandemic. There's regular holes now, have you noticed? Not just since the most recent debacle, for years now. Enough my brain's been reprogrammed to go "oh, that's back in stock, need to get a couple while it's in". It's just weird.

The minor-madness of having to track down records proving family members born in 1847 and 1877 are well and truly dead is a little something. I only wish I was walking around with those sorts of longevity genes and still able to have the Great (great) Grand-das and Grandmamas over for Sunday suppers

Cloudy morning turned into a perfect September day, pulled weeds, dug into a NATO job (maybe?!), planted a new black currant. Dogs are watching the world from the deck. Feels very much like the "hustle and get things in order" season matched with "I'll just sit out here with a hat and read some".

Most media are focusing on their own states, but this was a multi-state trip. The person took the whole route of the Southwest Chief, so Illinois through the midwest, then across S. Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona before LA. Then up the coast, and back across on California Zephyr.

Y'all...Another day, another set of measles reports. The absolute best thing you can do--as an adult and for your kids--is get your vaccines up to date. We live in the unraveling. Protect yourself. Many of these historic diseases are insanely communicable with major consequences.

Plugged in my little chest freezer this afternoon...feeling a weird mix of "savvy I am, with the deep freeze" and "oh my god, I've turned into my grandparents". Anyway, I live on an island, meat comes from the farmer in bulk, I've got 10lbs of apples I need to put somewhere (and it's cube cute).

Driving out this morning and was lucky enough to cross paths with the neighborhood six-point buck. Looking all sleek, winter coat, antlers out of velvet and gleaming, just walking all unbothered like, no hurry. I think he's the reigning big guy on our corner of the island. Gorgeous beastie.

It is not just the Costco run... it is the after Costco run when you have to haul everything into the house and figure out what to do with it.
