What would Alito and Thomas not agree to if Trump proposed it? Is there any line?
BREAKING: SCOTUS denies the Trump administration’s request to enforce the new U.S. Postal Service rule for the 2026 elections. Justices Alito and Thomas dissent.

This is so good. "Now that we are here together, carrying all of this—our dead, our histories, our disappointments, our anger, our attachments, our grief—how are we going to take care of one another and endure what comes next?"
Something has really bothered me about the Gloria Steinem discourse—something that's not really about Gloria Steinem. So, I wrote about it.
Grief Is Not a Verdict: This Is Not Really an Essay About Gloria Steinem
We grieve the worlds we’ve known and what it felt like to live in them.

Reading and listening to Tressie McMillan Cottom is always worth the time. So smart about how we are not creating/replacing the things that make possible the new brilliance that might replace what we've lost with the deaths of Dolly and Prince (and others). Worth a trip over to IG for a listen.
I dropped in very quickly to my Instagram stories with the first draft of my thoughts. Tl;dr is there multiple forms of grief.

I’ll be on MSNBC at about 8 o’clock tonight, if you’re into that kind of thing.

Whenever I’m down I watch this video of Dolly Parton joining Kenny Rogers during their joint 1985 tour. The crowd pop when she comes onstage mid-song is unlike anything I’ve ever heard.

here is what i think: we're not consumers or spectators, we are participants with agency. you should not hope that democrats will do anything. you must work to force them to do the right thing. the odds are long, but we are far from the first americans to face long odds. we will win.
you know, when someone says something like "these are the things that need to be done to avert disaster" and your response is "you think democrats will do that?!?" all you're telling me is that you think politics is a spectator sport

One indication of congressional atrophy is that people turn to SCOTUS for the thing we should but don't get from Congress: an actual public debate on an important policy issue. Which of course isn't supposed to be a legislative debate, but we've stopped having any actual legislative debates.

Our world in stupor lies;

Ironic points of light

Beleaguered by the same
Negation and despair,
Show an affirming flame.

Everyone in America should have to see these cases and think about what they mean for the kind of society we are becoming. They killed a mom in her minivan. And now they have grabbed this poor sweet kid, used him as bait to grab his dad, and sent him to a detention center in Texas.
