Remembering the time that a nonblack friend walked in on me watching Atlanta, and when I invited them to watch it with me they looked at the screen for 30 seconds and said "I don't think this show is for me."

Hosted an event in @wheelofwebcomics.bsky.social this last weekend - a slideshow and tell mixer to get to know everyone.
THERE WERE WAY MORE PEOPLE THAN WE EXPECTED, got messy but still glad we did this.

@wheelofwebcomics.bsky.social held an event where a bunch of us made slides and talked about our projects while discussing tropes that appear in them. Here's mine, where I got to talk about Sableheart a bit! It was a lovely time around lovely people. :)

Pretty much. Breaking even at shows, especially if you're not an artist that also has fan art for sale, is very tough. I had to stop after 2020 because I just couldn't afford it.
If I had the money, i would do it for fun to be honest. I met so many cool people doing shows.

this article confirms what ive been telling younger comic writers for years: unless you are very wealthy, there is no point to table in artist alley at a big show (unless table comped). you will not make your money back & your time’s better spent meeting people

Is Artist Alley even sustainable any more?
It's more expensive than ever to set up in artist alley or at a comics show - and here are some of the numbers

I promise this is gonna be a chill time -- I'm obviously the host but over this last year Wheel of Webcomics has created a lot of new friendships and brought a lot of people together.
It's something that I think is really important in the wake of all these corporations crashing down around us.
