Also this was the interview where Kitase most succinctly lays out FFVII's story structure. I think about it a lot when looking at the Remake series and the various improvements, missteps, and compromises it's made with the source material

FFVII Revelation Director Naoki Hamaguchi says the snowboarding section will be in Revelation, and all of the party members, you’ll see them, in that snowboarding section. But Nanaki might not be on a snowboard. He says you’ll have to look forward to what he’s going to be riding. (Gamespot, 9/15)

I'm excited to go check out the brand new Final Fantasy X Museum in Shinjuku on Sunday. My wildest (most unrealistic?) expectation is that we can see more of "17 SEVEN TEEN," the unreleased pitch that art director 直良有祐 Yusuke Naora created in 1999 that served as a story basis for FFX.

Asked if Revelation will be the end, Director Hamaguchi said If you look back at the OG FF7, they approached it with the same mentality of trying to make the best game possible. But as certain characters became increasingly popular, that created opportunities for other projects, such as Crisis Core.

The video game industry has always been volatile (I published Press Reset in 2021!) but the skeleton key to understanding the current state of things is this: Big games now cost 10x to make what they did 15 years ago but most do not generate even close to 10x the revenue. Simple as that

![Interviewer: Compared to the OG, it seems like this game will kick off fairly well in the heart of the story, which makes me curious how it will handle the sequence with Professor Gast's video tapes in Icicle Lodge. After all, Professor Gast is really a key character who lies at the origin of the story's drama.
Hamaguchi: That's a real insightful observation [laughs]. We've depicted that stuff in a really interesting way this time. Professor Gast's recordings in the Icicle Frostbelt are extremely important to Aerith's character, so we've made sure to cover that thoroughly. When people in the press ask how long it takes to acquire the Highwind, I always tell them you can get it around the four or five hour mark early in the game. The demo this time covers Chapter 4, and takes place right after you've obtained the Highwind. In the original game, you cross the Icicle Frostbelt after the Forgotten Capital, then head to the Great Cavity, then to Junon, then you get Mideel. So people are skeptical if four or five hours is enough time to cover that. I'll say that we've made the game start in a way that's totally different from what I expect people are imagining at this point. Director Naoki Hamaguchi says that in Final Fantasy VII Revelation, some armors have three linked slots. That's the big difference. What that means is that you can amplify the effects of each materia depending on which ones you equip in those slots. (wccftech, 9/10) #FF7R
