You can literally see where this government increased our exposure to oil price shock

There is no reason for this other than oil money funding politics

There are still unresolved questions about MethaneSAT and so support members of the science community who have asked the Auditor General to take a look at whether we have been told the full picuture about the $30M in public money that it received.

#NZpol Spinoff’s article is one of the better takes ⬇️

Royal Commission inquiries are "fact-finding, providing the best possible response to future challenges", non-political & non-partisan. It’s sad the coalition partners have little respect for that. Instead it’s exploitative cheap shots.
Essential read on this govt’s reckless gaslighting:

“It’s election year, I get it. But implying science & health advice was routinely being ignored fuels the distrust that erodes social cohesion—something the report is at pains to emphasise must be restored.” #nzpol

The real lesson of the second Covid-19 inquiry? We live in a post-truth world
Government ministers’ creative interpretations of the royal commission’s report took spin to scary new levels.

Related to that here’s the BBC on electric battery trains a year and a half ago.

Love to see some local expertise put towards this. (There’s a reason good governments support the science sector & local innovation.)

Hey remember David Seymour waxing lyrical about Milei halving the number of govt departments, and halving poverty, and no one in the NZ media (with the honorable exception of @mountaintui.bsky.social ) questioned it? That was fun 😒

#nzpol
After using billions of US tax dollars to win another election Javier Milei introduced the 12 hour work day to Argentina.

This is after doubling the poverty rate in the country.

More work more poverty more police brutality = anarcho capitalism

“permanently blind after a Department of Homeland Security agent fired a nonlethal round at close range” (note that’s fired at his head) 😔

There’s more, but it’s worth remembering that loss of function or normal life is "damage" too, not "just" deaths.

My father, and a few million other young men of his generation, put their lives on the line. Over 400,000 of them died to rid the world of the same kind of fascist poison that now dominates the Republican party. How is this even possible?

Similar to what I’ve previously written, but Ian’s a climate scientist (I’m a biologist)

One reason there’s a focus on methane compared to carbon is it’s the greenhouse gas with much larger effect: you get much more bangs-for-your-bucks per unit tackling it. If we don’t tackle methane, we’ll have to make vastly bigger efforts on the other pollutants.

We know what we need to do,
1/n
I thought I’d have a go at answering the question: what’s the flow on effect on emissions budgets from the methane cuts?

The answer was worse than I had anticipated
