Conservatives are mad when history’s victims speak. The subtext of all the anti-woke, anti-CRT, book
banning, school board threatening, religious nationalism is “you will shit up when I hurt you.”
How dare the National Museum of the American Indian refer to George Washington with a name that he was given by the Iroquois in 1753, a name which he himself used in his correspondence!

So glad to see Fox News taking a stand against the politicization of history. s/

Macklemore has this extremely Seattle earnestness that is pure cringe to 90% of the rest of the country, but I knew it would see him through in the end. What is cringe but earnestness persevering

Triumphantly returning from Medbed Hypersleep to cast a vote on the Rural Hospital Abolition Act. That's beautiful.
Mitch McConnell in a social media post said that he will return to the Senate floor and cast his first vote since his hospitalization in June.

the D and R candidates for governor are eqch making escalating opposition to data centers pivotal to their campaigns, and the AI companies are lying about doomsday to justify slowing down business (when in reality, nobody is investing in politically toxic plagiarism machines)

The GOP knows they’re going to get beaten badly at the ballot this year. It is why 1) so many of the candidates they have put up are very low quality, 2) big donors are focused on progressive primary challengers, and 3) they’re doing maximal vote suppression.

"wow, everyone knew this already" is such a cynical, annoying and unfortunately extremely common response to tech news. assuming your privacy is being violated and proving that it is are two very different things, and the latter is the result of hard work and rigorous reporting

Anyway, it is Day 7 of the Be Specific Challenge, where I beg any reporter talking to these tech CEOs about how, exactly, AI is going to make us extinct in a year. If they dreamscape 50 hypotheticals, ask them to be specific, because they are doing a creative writing exercise for money, not policy.

I've attempted to take the "AI extinction" people at face value all weekend, like an idiot, and here's the only thing that makes sense:

AI guys realized their tech is deployed to kill and surveil civilians by out-of-control (but human!) American defense contractors and stopping them is now hard.

Dehumanization by profit takers is our national character
It's open enrollment and I just saw how much I'm paying each month for health care for my family and nearly burst into tears.

"Hmmm...I can save $300 a month if I gamble that neither of us gets sick and has to eat the $6800 deductible...."

It shouldn't be this hard, man.

If you are exhausted of the longer term, deep backstory arcs and pacing of Marvel Cinematic Universe, the pacing of Lanterns was absolutely designed to snap you back into a story that tells itself swiftly and keeps affirming its faith in the audience to keep up. E5 was masterful, I am deep in.

It would not be possible to make a less charismatic TV journalist than this complete whining scumbag, to pick a more on-the-nose incredulous topic or fail to capture any nuance regarding it, or to make it any funnier with the cut to a United Healthcare ad to finish the bit. SNL should air this.
New correspondent Ross Douthat says "no story looms larger than the latest developments in artificial intelligence." The technology and its impacts will be a major focus of 60 Minutes reporting.
