This is such a good point to make during this fad diet unit! Fad diets often make money by promoting strict and unrealistic rules. Simple guidelines based on whole foods can help protect people from extreme diets and quick fixes. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

Researched the Alkaline Diet, which claims eating "acidic" foods disrupts body pH. Human physiology shows our kidneys and lungs strictly regulate systemic pH regardless of food intake! It works purely because it promotes eating more vegetables, not pH magic. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

I was genuinely surprised by the level of government influence on the dietary guidelines. Each administration leaves its mark, and reflects the era's priorities. It really highlights the ongoing tension between science and public policy! @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

So true! Shared environments make such a huge difference in nutrition. When everyone is on board, it’s so much easier to keep nutrient-dense foods around the house and build habits that actually stick long-term. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353
When families work together to stay healthy, their success rate increases. Integrating exercise and a healthy diet into a family’s lifestyle takes teamwork. #FamilyHealthandFitnessDayUSA #Family #health #fitness

The 24 hour recall was easy & accurate since I pack a lunch box daily. Seeing it on paper highlighted just how much I rely on snacking between schedule gaps and only eating a real meal at dinner. Goal: add more fruits, veggies & satiating snacks! @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

Working as a med-surg LNA this summer, getting patients to finish preps or sickly-sweet drinks like Juven was always an uphill battle. Turning prep into a slushy is brilliant, we really do need better ways to make clinical nutrition actually palatable! @beh353.bsky.social #beh353
I saw someone put their colonoscopy prep into a ninja slushy machine and I honestly feel like that is the exact energy we need to reform hospital food service.

A fun fact I learned about water is that women need about 2.7 liters of total water intake per day. I always thought you needed to drink 64 oz. of water, but I didn’t realize that water from fruits and vegetables also counts toward your daily intake! @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

I love learning the food science behind why things taste so good! I like to cook, bake, and experiment with different ingredients, so it’s interesting to understand what’s happening on a chemical level. I never realized melting cheese could change flavor so much! @beh353.bsky.social #beh353
Someone asked why melted cheese tastes so much better...I love these Qs, it's food science we take for granted!
Melting breaks down fats and proteins to release umami + aroma/flavour compounds. The gooey texture spreads to the tastebuds better + the Maillard reaction creates that toasty flavour.

One thing that stood out to me is that doing thorough research is important. As future healthcare professionals, we are trusted to provide accurate advice to our patients, so making sure the information we use is reliable and in their best interests is crucial. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

As a college student, this post is very relatable! To me, eating well is a trial-and-error process. It takes time to figure out what works for you, and it can be difficult to make healthy choices when convenience, time, and busy schedules all play a role. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

Hi, I’m a 3rd year Premed major! I’m taking this class for my Health Psych minor & it sounded super interesting! I’m curious to learn more about how much protein a person actually needs every day. Healthy eating -> being mindful. My favorite food are momos! @beh353.bsky.social #beh353
