Sir Ian McKellen - Quick sketch in Rebelle 8
October 6, 2026 at 8:03 AM
Finally made the jump to Rebelle 8.
I’m genuinely impressed by the new tools. A few features I’d been hoping for have finally arrived.
Great work, @escapemotions.
Looking forward to putting it through its paces and seeing where it takes my painting and drawing process.

Back to work tomorrow, and I’m genuinely happy to be back with my team again. 🕹️

The game we’re building is showing a lot of promise. There’s still plenty ahead of us, but I hope we will deliver the best for our players. ❤️

Back in Barcelona and already got the Japan spleen...
Need ramen, a konbini run and a train that arrives exactly on time.
September 4, 2026 at 10:24 AM
Flying back to Barcelona!

No more konnichiwa.
No more arigatou.
No more 7-Eleven runs.
No more ramen.
No more late-night walks to find one more thing to eat.

Until next time, Japan.

Japan is a very good place to be hungry.

Took a long Easter break and spent time with my family.
It helped more than I expected. :)
Grateful for the time I shared with them. Happy Easter!

Feeling genuinely sorry to see the Epic Games layoffs. It’s really hard to see so many talented people impacted all at once.

At King, we currently have quite a few open roles across different teams.

Happy International Women's Day and especially to the incredible women in the art and video games community and industry. Keep it strong! 💜

This is the video I mentioned a few days ago. It’s a short look into what actually fuels my inspiration as a Senior Art Director at King New Games.

A new piece of gear just hit my desk as an addition to my digital painting setup, and I’m already seeing how it changes my workflow. I’ll share the details and a full look at it very soon. Keep an eye out for the update!

It is strange how social media filters content. I can post a technical study of a life model, just a back view, and it gets flagged as "suggestive."
Meanwhile, the feed is full of posts designed specifically to be provocative that pass without a word.

If you don't feel like drawing today, you probably need to draw more.

A few signs you’ve hit a slump:
- You’re actively looking for excuses to avoid it.
- Art has slipped down your daily to-do list.
- The thought of starting drawing or painting feels like a chore.

I prefer drawing from life, but it is not always practical for a daily routine. Nothing beats the depth of a live model, though photo references usually win for convenience.

How do you handle your daily practice? Do you make it to live sessions or stick to your desk?

Time-boxing a drawing/painting practice to an hour or less is a game-changer.
It exposes mistakes rather than hiding them under layers of detail.
Practice shouldn't be about perfection... it should be about telling your next challenge.

Had a great time sitting down for an interview about my role as Senior Art Director at Activision Blizzard King. It was fun to step away from the drawing tablet and talk about the creative process behind our projects. Stay tuned for the full video!

Many artists ask me if they need a "signature style" to get hired. On a major IP, I actually look for the opposite. I need artists who can adapt their hand to fit our specific world. A versatile portfolio is often more hirable than a one-style gallery.

I might be old school, but I miss how blogs let you show and tell a story. Paul Richards is a great example of this. His work on Darksiders shows exactly how to do it right (in my opinion).

As an Art Director, I’m looking at portfolios to hire for my project. Most artists focus only on the final, polished image. I find rough sketches and notes much more interesting. They show how you solve problems and think. Do you include process work in your portfolio?

What do you struggle with the most with your Art?
Be honest 😜
