Just got an email from an author who said that they had received a quasi-phishing email from someone claiming to be me in my role as an acquisitions editor.

First I get those emails, using real names and publishing houses. Then someone uses my name.

Full circle fraud.

It's been fascinating to see how many spam/scam emails I've received from "editors" at publishing houses, wondering if I have more ideas to pitch to them.

I say "editors" in quotes, because even though they all are real names of real people at real publishing houses, the emails are all gmail.

As someone who adores NYC bookseller/icon/institution Bonnie Slotnick, this story is not "old lady yells at cloud," but rather "small business owner gets fed up by pop-up."

If I was in NYC, I'd work the store for free for her, while she was in court.

Food writing lovers: Can we talk about the under-told/undersold books that should get more love? The ones that we tell people "you should read this." The ones we lend others who are curious about food writing outside of cookbooks? The ones we remind them to bring back? (1/4)
