Thanks to the fic 'Exit pursued by a bear' reminding me of that excellent line, I'm thinking of a #cucumberplane au where sy criticises sqh one day for stealing the line for one of his pidw chapter titles. Post-abyss, lbh gets pursued by a bear after going to retrieve some cool artefact

how horribly, bitterly pointless everything must have felt to yqy after returning from the burnt down qiu house... including himself. his impressive, useless cultivation; his strong, useless body, his lofty, useless status; his powerful, worse than useless sword. none of it could save xiao jiu.

I think an important part of Shen Jiu’s character is that he is Miserable. He does horrible things but he doesn’t enjoy them because he doesn’t seem to enjoy much of anything. The closest he gets to happy is when he’s being comforted by women. And is that really happpiness or just need?

tl;dr I really rambled here and repeated myself about 1000 times probably, this is NOT a very well written argument, but basically the villain in the qijiu story is ~Society~, the narrative/the cruel world they live in and neither sj or yqy are To Blame for their estrangement
like it or want it to happen because he was trying to avoid causing more hurt to sj than necessary. it's another part of the Tragedy of Qijiu that sj didn't recognise this.

also! yqy!!! if a coworker i hated directly insulted me twice unprovoked and then our self-designated mediator hit me with a "he's just not good with words, you can't mind him" i would be FUMING. he seemed good with words just a second ago! when he was insulting me! on purpose!!!

Funnily enough I think Xie Lian is the only gay protag so far, imo both wwx and sy are Bi... people can interpret it as comphet if they want but sy is explicitly bi imo and wwx, while not so explicit, is not far behind
thinking about sv and sexuality today... i respect gay SY as an interpretation + think it could be argued for, but i do find it funny how dogmatically people argue against bisexual SY despite him being one of the only guys to talk about liking women, but Only seem to have that energy for him?
