Trump has announced what he calls a ‘historic’ deal over Greenland, but how much of it is actually new? Many of its key elements simply build on arrangements the US has already had for decades.

With the US midterms just over six weeks away, Republicans are struggling in the polls.

Great to talk to @lbc.co.uk's Vanessa Feltz just now about the new deal between Greenland, Denmark and the US📻

Is the deal really new? Who came out on top? And what are they saying in Denmark and Greenland?

‼️ A deal has been reached between Greenland, Denmark and the US ‼️

Very few details so far on the specifics, but it sounds oddly similar to the 1941 defence treaty between Denmark and the US…

Some quick reflections below🧵
Trump declares victory in historic deal with Greenland as he secures 'permanent' US military rights
Donald Trump struck a sweeping deal with Denmark and Greenland granting the U.S. permanent military basing rights on the strategically vital Arctic island.

Even without the war in Iran, our agriculture supply chains are incredibly exposed - we need international cooperation to address that 🧵(1/6)

Today is the last day of the UK's Global Partnership Conference, co-hosted with South Africa.

It is all about showing continued British commitment to international cooperation at a time of growing US isolationism and strain on the rules-based order.

Work should be a route out of poverty. That means better childcare support, flexible jobs and progression for parents.

Labour seems keen to talk about the ‘Danish model’ and has taken inspiration from the ‘Social Democratic playbook’ for some of their recent policies.

So, I thought it would be worth looking across the pond to some of the lessons that Labour could take from the Danish election last week👇

What's the government hoping to get out of Starmer's visit to China?

My colleague Laura Chappell argues that it is not about securing a big announcement, but instead it is about:

1️⃣Scoping out economic opportunities
2️⃣Thawing diplomatic ties

The UK and its European allies have taken the right position and shouldn’t back down. Trump’s actions show a disregard for other countries’ territorial integrity, crossing a dangerous line. Hopefully Starmer’s speech this morning will make that clear. This is a moment to be sober but firm.
