⚡ Building The Ant Firm | Local-First SEO websites for Ontario businesses
💡 Learning by doing. Showing up daily.
Got a new lead today. It came from utm_source=chatgpt.com

ChatGPT is doing referrals now.

Small wins like this are what keep me going. One lead from a robot, and I'm good to spend another six months tweaking headings and refreshing analytics like it owes me money.

Everyone wants to build websites faster. Nobody wants to stop and save what they already built.

I've rebuilt the same Elementor sections on every site. Hours gone. Not my smartest habit.

So I'm building my own component library, one site at a time. No more rebuilding the same stuff over and over.

Confession: 5-page business websites used to annoy me. At the owner.

But after doing the right math I realized They run a business. Knowing what a website needs was never their job.

That's on whoever sold it to them.

If you are a business owners, did your web person ever walk you through it?

It's an interesting feeling. The more you actually fail at something, the more you understand what it is and what you need to do to achieve it, and how many more times you'll fail. But you feel that confidence grow inside you, the more you fail.

I checked 1,318 GTA business websites myself, one at a time, no scraping tool, just browser tabs. Over 3 out of 4 were outdated, broken, or down to a single page. Most still had great reviews.

Wrote up what I found here: www.linkedin.com/pulse/i-chec...

I manually checked 1,318 GTA business websites across 17 cities. Over 3 in 4 had outdated, broken, or single-page sites. Here's what I found.

How I'm rebuilding a SaaS website with SEO in mind, from the start.

- Off static HTML, onto WordPress + Elementor Pro
- Keyword research → gap finder → pillar → cluster → spoke
- Pages built for Google and for ChatGPT/AI answers
- Free tools, a blog with a real topical map

The urge to work 10 hours a day and grind through my to-do list instead of working 6 focused hours and using the remaining 4 to read, listen, and think is eating me up.

Claude's inability to do simple tasks simply boils my blood.

I was one of those people who used to think it doesn't take much to build a site. True - it doesn't, to show off.

But making a website perfect in every aspect takes a lot of time and precision.

Just spent hours trying to fix a website's hero section responsiveness. Fuck.

I find social media fascinating. Someone shares a genuinely good insight and nobody looks twice, just because they don't have the followers.

Then a guy with a massive following posts that the sun rises in the east, and everyone's in the replies like "thank you for sharing this"

Working hard feels like progress. It's not the same thing as running a business.

Hustle without sales attached is comfortable - you're busy, so it feels like it's working. I spent eight months telling myself that.

You don't find out until you try to convert someone.

As a business owner, I don't know this stuff. But people who sell websites for a living, why don't they tell you what makes a website actually work for growth?

Guess there's no invoice line item for "explaining why your site does nothing."

Frustrating to even analyze.

Finally.

YouTube just added the ability to upload a custom thumbnail directly when you're setting up a video.

Better late than never, YouTube

Months ago I had zero idea what I was doing. Now I know what actually moves things, and it's not magic. It's the boring basics done right, over and over.

Not a big number to most of you here. But it's mine. First time I understand instead of guess.

Leg day never feels like a workout while you're in it. No pump, nothing to flex.

You try to stand up next morning and your legs go "absolutely not."

Same with marketing. Do the work, nothing visible happens.

This Saturday: I am doing both. I guess, I'm cooked.

Some days I want to work half as much. Some days I want to work twice as hard. Both feelings are correct and I've stopped trying to pick one.

You don't need to code to build a website that works, thanks to WordPress. Can't code, but I'm confident building one start to finish.

Then I went deep into SEO. Holy shit, SEO has way too many layers, and with AI in the mix, there's even more to learn.

I'm loving it.

Worked more than usual this week, now I gotta limit spending Claude next 4 days which will be hard as I am experimenting too many things these days.

It's been a long we had Friday free reset from Claude.

Been experimenting with SEO on a client's blog for a few months now, and it's actually working. Nowhere near "best in class" results yet, but watching that line climb month over month is genuinely satisfying.

Going to tell my mother and my wife, I might have actually got it.

Between work and life, currently watching The Last Kingdom.

I started it three times before but always ended up not watching because it felt very slow. This time I decided to give it one last shot, and it's fire.

It starts very, very slow, but after a couple of episodes it picks up the pace.

We just finished building a website for a consulting brand, and the client was so happy with it that he went ahead and left us a review on Google without us even asking twice.

This part of my life, this little part... is called happiness.

Switched from juggling 8 tasks a day to 3 tasks per project, 2 projects, 4 hours dedicated each.

There's a Japanese concept called Ichigyo-zanmai, total concentration on one thing. One screen open, one task, nothing else until it's done.

Best change I've made this year.

I don't get why people hate on AI/LLM tools so much, but Claude has been one of the best things to happen to me.

It lets me explore, tear down, reverse-engineer, and experiment with stuff I'd never have touched before. I fail constantly. I love every minute of it.
