Hello There! My name is Jackson. I'm a writer and narrative designer for video games. I'll be posting updates here about the cool stuff I'm working on, interspersed with stupid opinions no-one asked for and bad attempts at comedy. 🙂
The most important thing I think we all need to do is remember this. Remember what Microsoft and Xbox are doing to this industry right now when they try to reenter it in 10-15 years. Do not trust them, do not take their money. Do not invite the vampire across your threshold.
Man reading this is giving me heartburn. Hundreds punished for this mismanagement of others, and those who aren't cut are being told to do the impossible if they want to stay employed.
Continuing Our Reset
This message was just sent to Team XBOX employees globally. Team, I’m writing to share several updates as part of the XBOX reset outlined earlier this year. First, we are eliminating 268 roles across ...

The Game Writing SIG’s first monthly narrative spotlight is out! Every month I will be talking(ranting) about a different narrative-centric game. For this one I spoke with @antennasunite.bsky.social about his video game/Escape Room hybrid ScribeOS. I’ve got big plans for this series so stay tuned!
Our first-ever monthly narrative game spotlight is live on the SIG website! For our inaugural article, we spoke to ScribeOS creator Milo Duclayan about the magic circle and what game writers can learn from the LARP community.

“XCOM but it’s Star Wars” is a game pitch that was carefully designed in a laboratory to prevent me doing anything remotely productive for the next month.

You know captain Sisko is a cool boss because whenever he gets a date everyone else on the station locks in and starts trying to wingman for him.

Just watched the “Dax can’t date the same person as her previous host because they’re both girls” deep space nine episode, and man does it suck that all the good Star Trek shows were made when tv writers still had to maneuver around the legacy of the hays code.

I have now seen the odyssey. It was good, but the movie runs into what are by now well established and continually frustrating weak points for Nolan, taking itself too seriously at all times and dull, uninspired color palettes. 7-8/10

Everyone working or trying to work in games has a studio they dream of joining, for me that studio has always been Obsidian Entertainment. If anyone affected by the layoffs is reading this, know that Microsoft’s incompetence does not reflect on your worth, and that the work you did is treasured.

I'm very sorry to announce that I was one of the devs affected by the Obsidian layoffs today. At least for four years, it was a beautiful dream.

If you need a writer with experience in everything from the fog of war to romance - especially if you're open to remote - please get in touch.

I do not think you should be allowed to complain about steam reviewers saying a game is overpriced unless you can look me in the eyes and say you would pay 15-20 dollars for angry birds with a straight face.

A lot has been said about the growing gaming hardware squeeze in the past few weeks. It’s going to suck for a few years, but I’m hopeful either the AI bubble will have burst or supply chains will have adapted by the time people’s current machines give out.
