The military and government say the risk of conflict is growing, but we may not be mentally ready for it

RBC-Ukraine sources say Slovak PM Robert Fico pulled out of a planned Ukraine trip at the last minute and missed the Carpathian Initiative summit where Zelensky unveiled a new cooperation format.
Zelensky announced the formation of the Carpathian Eight, Ukraine, Romania, Serbia, Poland, Slovakia, Czechia, Austria, and Hungary. The first summit starts today and runs until Sept 20. He says they’ll cooperate on security, energy, logistics, cross-border economy, and community support.

Good piece by CER associate fellow @caminomortera.bsky.social. @vonderleyen.ec.europa.eu took the right line yesterday: "Ceuta's border is a European border. Because Ceuta is Spain. Ceuta is Europe. And Europe will be there for you." But that wasn't what happened in July - Spain got no solidarity.
Ceuta was not a migration crisis, but a crisis of trust. Europe's leaders should stop weaponising #Schengen against each other lest the EU’s adversaries copy them.

They are pumping money into the Nov 3 midterms because this election may limit what they can get away with moving forward.
