How’s your day going, I caught a stomach bug (maybe from daycare?) and am now curled up on the couch under two blankets waiting to see if I can keep ice chips down

My thing with the “AI will kill us all” discourse is that if we wanted an existential crisis ignored by regulators climate change is right there, you know?

The baby sleep gurus don’t tell you what to do when the baby hates 10pm. Otherwise? Pretty easy to sooth at night! At 10pm? Overwrought. Wailing and gnashing of gums.

I am meal prepping lunches for my return to work (unnecessarily, we have lots of leftovers, but this is more about introducing the concept that I am the sort of person who makes and eats meal prepped salads)…

Some good writing here on the closure of religion departments in Virginia and elsewhere. My religion degree made me a better thinker and, I think, a better citizen, and it’s made me sad this past year to see so many departments closing. www.liberalcurrents.com/religion-hum...
Religion, Humanities, and the Public Good
The right wing's assault on Religion and Humanities programs is an assault on our ability to understand the world, from Hindutva abroad to Christian Nationalism at home.

We just learned that one of Mike Lee's Republican Senate colleagues employed a kid who loved the Nazis and white supremacist Rhodesia, and I can't wait for him never to be asked about it.
"They"? What?

What's fun about Republicans is that they get to smear an entire political group as responsible for one random person's actions, but they themselves will deny any responsibility for the actions of their own deranged president or the racist billionaire who has bought them all.

Years ago my NaNoWriMo was about an AI dating coach which, upon achieving sentience, decided the best way to support flourishing human relationships would be to address climate change
I think we'd see a lot more urgency about regulating AI in Silicon Valley if the AI agents suddenly developed a sense of restorative justice, and instead of them threatening humanity with total extinction, they just wanted to redistribute wealth and reverse power hierarchies.
