As Spokane continues its recovery from the wildfire, the City announced a coordinated package of new resources and legislative proposals to provide greater transparency, streamline the rebuilding process, and place City staff directly alongside residents as they navigate recovery.

Important wildfire news: FEMA has informed us that as of yesterday, they are declaring an end to the federal emergency period for the wildfires in Eastern Washington. That means our request for a federal Major Disaster Declaration is due Sept. 29.

The City has issued its first rebuilding permit following the devastation from the Spokane Complex Fire. The City has lowered demolition fees for buildings damaged in the wildfires. Other possible reforms include adopting a “like-for-like” code to expedite reviews for buildings in the same location & allowing the construction of smaller ADUs before building a main residential building on the property.
