my march monthly setup 🌼
March is in that in-between stage where winter lingers, but spring is creeping in. For this month, I painted daffodils in my bullet journal, and it feels like holding onto that first breath of spring. 🍃✨

Not happy with this painting. I tried capturing sunlight diffusing, but the yellow mixed with the blue and turned green. I also didn’t use enough paint, so the paper showed through. Next time, I’d paint sections of the sky with their final colors to avoid this.

Back to horizontal thumbnails with a 20-minute limit! I painted a sunset sky with blues, purples, and pinks. The colors blended easily after wetting the base. It was fun to paint and came out beautifully—this might be my favourite thumbnail so far!

My fourth vertical thumbnail painting! I painted the sun peeking through trees, experimenting with glazing and adding yellow. To enhance the effect, I'd reduce the brightness elsewhere to make the sun feel brighter. I love how it turned out—wish I painted it larger, but there’d be small differences.

My February bullet journal setup! February is my "pink month," and the cherry blossoms reflect that. It's short, busy, and one of my favorites. I don't get why it's disliked (like in Taylor Swift's "Fortnight")—I’d say November is worse with all the grey. What’s your least favorite month?

This thumbnail painting is of a dark forest path from a hike! The reference pic had mostly browns and greens, but I used a pink underpainting and added purple to the forest floor. The final piece is a bit too dark, if I continued, I'd add brown highlights and define the tree trunks more.

My first four thumbnail paintings! I’m glad I started doing 2x4 inch thumbnails. They're small enough to ease the fear of the blank page and perfectionism, allowing me to focus on improving my skills. My goal is to explore color, values, and techniques, while staying consistent with daily painting.

Vertical Thumbnail painting✨
These small paintings are completed with a fixed time limit. These constraints help painters be more decisive with each stroke and increase "brush mileage" faster. The small size reduces pressure, making it okay if the result isn't perfect—it’s all about learning!
