Walking. An open field, wooded trail, railroad track, river's edge, sandy beach, path unworn, a good book.
Beauty & Serenity.
Hamnet
Face flushes in warmth
Eyes fill with tears
Throat thick with a lump of tightness
Silence
Try to breathe
Can't
Try again
Force the inhale
Lungs fill
A friend would like it
The thought falls in the void
Where the petals gather
Breathe
Pick up my book
To Hubbard's Little Journeys
I drift
October 12, 2026 at 12:51 AM
A few hours spent at a book exchange. Perusing the classics and newer volumes.
Looking at my books, they carry memories, like a photo album. New, or old
It's hard to let them go.
Books are clothing to my body, adventure to my mind and oxygen to my soul.
A balm to brokenness, pain and loss.

Hubbard's description of Whitman's empathy captures how he was so deeply rooted and grounded in the earth; capturing how he embraced the uncontainable beauty and wealth of nature's infinity.
My mind whirls!

Turner, Swift, Milton, Thoreau, Ruskins, Dickens, Wordsworth... and others
A walk of utter delight!

Now,
Wind and rain are calm,
Bed soft and cozy
Pillows cool and fluffy,
Warm.
Sleep maybe?
No.
Meows.
Try to delay-
Leapt upon!
Kitty will have none of it.
Heavy purring.
Oh well,
Resigned to get up.
Drift off again?
Not on her watch.
Lol, it will be a long day.
But that's okay.
Thankful.

Listened to the reports
Wind howled
Rain started
Sleep was hard to claim
Hypervigilant
Felt like 5 cups of coffee in my veins
Wait
Wrote my story I dictated on my morning walk
Nice
Drifted in, out
Sore, stiff
With every turn
My mind woke
Tried to convince my body, my brain
It wont be bad
Rest
Nah

Fresh air & imagination

Write.
Pause
Back a few spaces
Re-word
Reread
Shorten-
Lengthen--
Wrong words
Consider meaning.
[Delete]
Rewrite.

Wrestle
Set aside
Contemplate
Justify
Retype.

Question?
Write.
Realize.
[Delete]
Words turn to thoughts without paper & pen.
Settles uncomfortable in the void.
Sigh.

Crisp.
Fresh.
World wakes.
Readies the day.
But...
Moon and Jupiter hold strong in the Eastern sky.
Silent.
Cradled.
Unyielding to the rising Sun.
Rainbow cotton candy.
Misty blanket snuggled in on the Western ridge.
Cold air.
Lungs full.
Morning.
Delightful.

Wow! What craziness!
Intense, active day
2,000 + people
Drained but gratified
Decompress
Still my mind and my body
Back porch
Feet up
A lot of quiet
Beauty in the tops of trees like dancing flames
Acorn caps that newly fell
Fresh like a mini painted sunrise
Night creeps in
Sweet

Morning has come too quickly
Sun is chasing the moon away
Stars hang on
Mist drifts in
Gentle cool breeze
Crispy fall leaves rustle on the trees
Candle flickers
Kitty's happy
Blanket
Stillness
Coffee
Anticipating a good day
Assurance of time's march
Potentials abound
Needed
Eyes & ears open
Thankful

Minutes passed slowly in the saunter of a foggy morning.
Busy hours filled the gap.
Sun ran away beyond the hills.
Curtain of black fell upon the day.
Retreat.
Shed the uniform.
Loose, cool, soft.
Feet up,
Fresh air,
Purring friend,
Sounds of the night.
Thankful.
Rest well.

Transparency
It's real
Right?
Time helps
2 hour morning walk
Peace
Unexpected find
Honestly... I did not put that there at the base of a tree.
Off the beaten path
I always take the one less traveled
It was a needed message
Change of the season in the air
So much beauty
Appreciate the moment
Hope

Sometimes you just need to get it out, write it down, even if you go unheard.

Isolation is sharp, heavy.
It is a slow starving of the spirit.
Caught between walls of rejection.
There is no door.
Running through mud.
Grasping at straws.
So much loss.
Emotional exhaustion
Not just in moments
Measured in years.

A different beauty today
Another sunrise
Clear
Crisp
Clean
Deep breath of Fall

I've got that fire on the mountain
Fire in my soul....
He said, sing it on the mountain, or in the valley low.
He's my God and he'll never let me go...

Early hours with
Orion
Perseus
Cassiopeia
Alcyone
Auriga
Gemini
Jupiter
Canis Minor and Major
Space junk floats by,
Reflect on the years of change.
Passing plane blinks
Then the slow fade begins
Blues, periwinkle, silver, violet, greens
A warm glow
Clear
See you tomorrow night my friends.

Few things offer such gentle clarity to my mind and stillness to my soul as an early morning walk.
