@crosscountryuk.bsky.social - your truly dreadful service strikes again - drivers and guards in the wrong place - my train from Leicester leaving an hour late - I will miss my connection for my advance booked train.

@lner.co.uk - have now been on broken down train between Peterborough and Newark for two hours - have meeting in Edinburgh later today which if I am not on a moving train soon I will miss. @lner.co.uk you appear not to care or be doing anything- driver, staff and passengers apparently abandoned

What a great service the rail line to/from King’s Heath to Birmingham New St is. Used it for first time today! Excellent. Quick tip for West Mids Railways - litter bins probably need emptying more frequently - people are using them but they are overflowing.

So @scotraill.bsky.social what are you doing in Platform 3 waiting room @ Stirling station? Both toilets out of order, 1 part of room coralled off with bucket for leak, stained upholstery and battered furniture. Seedy and shabby. Not helpful to often elderly and disabled people who want to use it.

Disgusting and inaccurate throwaway comment by @JustinOnWebb about “ the gulf” between private and state schools, on maths feature on BBCR4Today programme today, yet again betraying his political prejudices.

In 2020 Robert Jenrick MP accepted that his decision on the Richard Desmond Conservative Party donor’s Westferry Printworks pl application was “ unlawful by reason of apparent bias”. Some people would describe that as “corrupt”.

A fantastic moment - incredible turnaround Rotherham in 2015/16 - so much credit to Cllr Chris Read, Cabinet Members, former CX Sharon Kemp, social workers Snr and Jnr, education, vol sec partners in Rotherham. Battling for the children of Rotherham.
Rotherham Children's Services rated 'outstanding' by Ofsted
The inspection comes 10 years after the council was stripped of running its Children's Services.

Have read it - you’re right - good book but a re- read might be timely…
With all these Franco-British discussions about state-building in the Near East, now’s the time to read (or re-read) this by @jamesbarr.bsky.social. Not only a brilliant book about the tangled history of the region, but one if the best non-fiction titles. dauntbooks.co.uk/shop/books/a...

Oh yes - we loved our trip to Rotherham in 2022 for the France vs Iceland game on the hottest day ever - had great chat with Icelandic fans saying “Is it always as hot as this?”
Top team who brought it all to Rotherham though!

Wonderful ( air - conditioned!) village hall concert with @karentweed and Nick Wiseman - Ellis in Peckleton, Leicestershire last night. Great chat and great music - both brilliant!

This is brilliant - congratulations on your envoy role - and great that the Lewis chessmen will not be far away from their Celtic cousins in Brittany when they visit Normandy.
In return the British Museum will lend some of their most precious treasures including the Sutton Hoo hoard and some Lewis chessmen to museums in Caen and Rouen. These loans will coincide with the 1000th anniversary of William the Conqueror’s birth. A moment to celebrate x-Channel cultural links!

At long last. The PM has finally accepted that ‘youth mobility is not freedom of movement.’ A visa-based scheme is not a concession to the EU but a huge opportunity for young people on both sides of the Channel to live, study, work and love in another culture - in the way previous generations have!

Strongly supportive of the comments of Cllr Chris Read. Entirely sane and balanced and few people have done more than him to change organisations and attitudes in reality - not just talk but action.
We had a very civil cross-party discussion about the merits or otherwise of a national inquiry at council this week. I understand my comments have already upset some people. But the polarisation is a barrier to safety and somehow it’s got to change. www.thestar.co.uk/news/politic...

Staying with my sons tonight. Their board game collection is remarkably tidy 🙂
