The point is that as a society, somewhat intentionally because the people who built the post-World War II public university system created this infrastructure on purpose, we house countless vital functions in our modern public universities.

Also two of my musical groups did the right thing this week in abandoning an anti-trans performance venue with alacrity and without argument, even though it caused substantial difficulties and a lot of extra work for volunteer board members. Grateful to have landed with fab people (and musicians).

I recently read (at long last) H is for Hawk. Loved it. As keen and accurate a depiction of grief for a parent as I’ve found. Watched the film last night, and while it doesn’t quite have the emotional heft of the book, it was still excellent — especially the hawks. I had a couple of good cries.

Hummingbird visited my backyard today and enjoyed the snapdragons long enough for me to get a blurry photo.

Hey, I’m Stacie, a librarian and classical musician in Minneapolis. Married, one delightful husband, two wonderful dogs, and one elderly cat.

A favorite moment is the catch in Joe Talbot’s voice in the first repetition of ”damage, damage, damage“ in IDLES’ The Beachland Ballroom.
Hi, I'm John Moe, a writer and podcast maker in Saint Paul. I am married with three mostly grown kids and two nice dogs.

I like in "Misunderstood" when Tweedy throws in extra syllables on "Take the guitar player for a ride".

Would you like to introduce yourself with a small song moment you like?

YES. WE DO THIS ON PURPOSE. FOR DECADES. BECAUSE WE REMEMBER WHEN TEEN PREGNANCY WAS CONSIDERED ONE OF THE GREAT SOCIAL PROBLEMS.
Fox News complains that underage teenage girls aren’t getting pregnant enough:

“The problem is teens and young adults. From ages 15-19, the fertility rate is down 70% in the last 2 decades, which means we are telling people who are young not to have babies.”

My childhood DQ! It was just down the street from the municipal swimming pool. We'd walk there for a cone after an afternoon spent swimming. I think the pool is long since closed/demoed. The DQ was still there as of a few years ago, but the old-school sign has been gone for ages.

Went to the Mill City Museum today for the first time in many years. Very enjoyable. And it was an absolutely glorious day for photos from the observation deck.

I see these posts about my beloved Minneapolis often, but I also see similar posts about other cities, which are delightfully weird and welcoming in so many ways. Why we don’t all embrace the weird, friendly nature of our urban communities, I will never understand.
minneapolis is incredible because you could be watching a bunch of hot punks bicycling around on custom freak bikes meanwhile down the road a man dressed as spiderman literally jumps off a building to punch jake lang in the face repeatedly on a giant cross

A friend dropped off six ears of freshly picked sweet corn just before we were about to put dinner on the grill. Ideal addition to our meal. Late summer perfection.
