Abstract #nude. I painted this while reflecting on women's blood, and the way it permeates so many facets of life and society (whether it be menstruation, abortion, maternal deaths, femicide, or birth) and yet we struggle to talk about it openly.
#art #womensrights #abstractart #watercolor
Abstract seated nude of a woman's body in watercolor. Lines draw attention to breasts, the suggestion of a curved back and bent head, a dark red center where the womb might be, all portrayed in reds and pinks on a white background with spatters throughout creating texture.

Purple finch. Day 2, Painting #4. I am challenging myself to complete 20 watercolor birds over the next 2 weeks and list the 12 best as prints on my website. #watercolor #art #artist #birds #purplefinch
A watercolor painting of a purple finch sits on a messy desk surrounded by brushes, jars of water, and crumpled paper towels stained with paint. The painting is in a loose, abstract style in shades of bright pink and purple.

Tried painting cardinals today. I think this one is the most successful, but we'll see what I think tomorrow. 🤔😂 #art #watercolorpainting #cardinal #redbird #birds
An impressionistic watercolor painting of a cardinal in shades of red, gray, and yellow. His crest and the top line of his beak are in sharp focus but the rest of his form fades in and out in bright splashes of color.

Adding itty bitty (titty) abstract acrylic paintings to the miniatures collection! Love how they turned out. #abstract #art #originalpainting
A 2.5×3.5 inch abstract acrylic painting in shades of pink is shown in the artist's hand at her desk. Larger abstract paintings are visible in the background on the edge of a white desk. The painting was made by pressing the canvas onto paint sptead on the artist's body, and the paint shows mixing colors and interesting textures reminiscent of peony petals and clouds at sunset.

Found the perfect frame for photographing my mini originals today!
A simple black photo frame contains a white and black mat around a small watercolor painting of a western bluebird in vibrant shades of blue. The picture frame stands on a white desk with acrylic paint tubes in blue and a watercolor mixing palette in the background.

Goldfinches from today's painting session.

#goldfinches #watercolor #art
Three tiny paintings of goldfinches in bright yellow and blue are arranged on a desk beside brushes, pens, and other watercolor supplies. A watercolor goldfinch facing the right of the painting. Black wings and cap are sprinkled with yellow drops and the background is a blend of blues, yellows and greens. His posture is proud, as though surveying something below. A goldfinch perches on the suggestion of a branch, glancing right and showing his vibrant yellow chest to the viewer. The background swirls with shades of blue and dabbles of yellow. A goldfinch angles down across a tiny painting in watercolor, displaying his back and folded black wings to the viewer. The background is bright patches of blue and yellow mellowing into greens and speckles of all the colors throughout.

"I know the world is bruised and bleeding, and though it is important not to ignore its pain, it is also critical to refuse to succumb to its malevolence. Like failure, chaos contains information that can lead to knowledge — even wisdom. Like art."

No Place for Self-Pity, No Room for Fear: Toni Morrison on the Artist’s Task in Troubled Times

Spring violets in abstract. Today's #januarty prompt is #monochrome and I was in a purple mood. #abstract #watercolor #fineart #art #artyear
Abstract watercolor painting in shades of purple. The shapes are based on violet flowers and the artist uses several techniques of wet on dry, wet on wet, splatters, and lifting off to add depth and texture to the painting.

The water was so deep that it was blue-green even though everything else was winter gray. DeSoto Falls in Alabama. #waterfall #mist #trees #cliffs #appalachia #lookoutmountain
A view of the bottom of DeSoto Falls in Fort Payne, Alabama in winter. The sky is misty and the rocky cliffs are layered in shades of gray. At the base of the falls, the water is a startling shade of blue against all of winter's gray. In the foreground, scrubby brush frames the front of the pool in textural gray and tan.
