Trying to tread lightly on the Earth. Living with climate grief.
Our local MP, Miatta Fahnbulleh, faces a choice: protect the planet and the people of Peckham or prioritise the profits of polluters.

Help her make the right one.

It is nice to be appreciated, thank you to the girl who donated some money to the garden. If we ever manage to list the site as a #communityasset this can be the start of our fundraising or it can buy seeds or bulbs.

Money!
As I was bent over picking rubbish up off the pavement, a voice called out 'hello!' I looked up a girl was waving a £5 note at me from a car window. We had a chat about what we were doing and I took the money and told her we would spend it on the Gardens. We have had some rain in the past few days and the gardens are no longer so crunchy.

We do not build the reservoirs needed to store the rain that falls here.
We do not build strategic food reserves needed to maintain provision in hard times.
We failed to build effective stores of PPE, to protect us in pandemics.
This country has long been governed by people who do not prepare.

For someone who coveted the top job for such a long time, Sir Andy Burnham (a little premature, that one…) really hasn’t come up with many ideas!

Some tinkering at frayed edges, coupled with some monumental howlers really doesn’t cut it…

If we aren't succeeding in our organizing goals, if everyone is burning out, if we have big plans but can't accomplish them (we don't pass the structure tests for big strikes, for example), we have to go back further: start w/ building the relationships, the scaffolding to support larger actions.
I've been doing it wrong. (I had an epiphany.)

Bumble bees - lots in the garden and give so much joy. Butterflies in short supply and I feel sad about the loss, there used to be so many more.

Still no rain
It has not been so hot this side of the country but we are still very dry. What was noticeable to me was the lack of butterflies, our gardens are full of what is commonly called 'butterfly bushes' and I can remember when this plants fluttered with life. The creeping loss goes unremarked, it's only those of us old enough to remember what things were like that feel the pain.

Smoky skies in Toronto have led to new scrutiny of government efforts to fight fires and manage forests. But scientists say the realistic way to tackle the smoke is fighting climate change itself.
