It's like eating food flavoring instead of food.
The therapy-style didacticism around emotion that's become common in fiction lately really does bother me, just as a pure reader. What's the fun in thinking about a character if the author tells you exactly, note for note, what's going on with them

Wounded Knee. Tulsa. My Lai. Abu Ghraib

And now, Minab

We need to talk about the horror when 180 little schoolgirls, boys and teachers were obliterated by U.S. Tomahawk missiles last week. And tell Congress: Not one more dime for these war crimes

My new column www.inquirer.com/opinion/iran...
AI error or not, Iran school bombing is a permanent stain on America’s soul | Will Bunch
A debate on AI in warfare obscures the truth about an Iran school bombing. U.S. humans are to blame for this war crime.

Today’s military strikes on Iran — carried out by the United States and Israel — mark a catastrophic escalation in an illegal war of aggression. Bombing cities. Killing civilians. Opening a new theater of war.

funny how propaganda keeps saying the US has advanced precision weapons that can snipe an evil leader guy from 2000 leagues away or whatever but it always comes down to blowing up as many innocent people as they can

Media coverage of Gaza has plummeted. So today on @thenation.com, we're doing something pretty special: we're only running pieces by people in and from Gaza.

We're calling it "A Day for Gaza." You can find links to all of the incredible pieces here. Please read! www.thenation.com/article/worl...
A Day for Gaza
Today, The Nation is turning over its website exclusively to stories from Gaza and its people. This is why.

For some reason I thought the music of Tool would be hard to digest (so to speak) but I've been charmed by the lead vocalist's tone, it's so sweet in harsh contrast to the instrumentation (which I really like). Maynard James Keenan has turned into one of my favorite male vocalists.

A lot of people freak out when I say this but being sexually objectified is only one minuscule part of all the many ways in which you can be objectified as a woman.

The fact that it’s the only form of objectification you easily learn about is intentional to keep you in line.
It’s never about women being safe or even women not being objectified, it’s just about having control.

feel like it’s important to always stress that sex is good. porn is good. like many good things, sometimes they are not good. but there is nothing inherently harmful about sex or porn. a child will be fine. an adult will be fine. sex is good and normal
The idea that all porn has to be hidden behind ID verification and/or a paywall because otherwise 'minors might see' is ridiculous. Yes, minors might see. So fucking what.

When your criticism of a work featuring a main female character is that she's annoying, you should stop and reflect that maybe you're dumb.
