i went to a stop-motion short film showcase on wednesday. i'd highly recommend BUZZ BOX (1985), so long as you don't have photosensitive epilepsy. #LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched

I can’t believe that George W Bush painted the meme

It is one of the biggest cross-movement solidarity moments in Canada.

It's also so weird to imply that teenagers were signing up for the military en masse because of some kind of patriotic fever and not the fact that they were literally trying to bring back the draft and had army recruiters stationed in public school cafeterias nationwide.

This is such a delusional takeaway. What I remember is the general public being swept into such a jingoistic fervor that you had to put an American flag on your house and your car so you weren't harassed or worse. It was open season on Muslims—and then by extension any other marginalized group.
But that feeling of a shared bond among all Americans in the early weeks after the attack is something I’m so glad I got to experience. Because it’s the thing that I think we’re missing the most today.

you enlisted to go revenge-kill innocent muslims & you're calling that a "shared sense of purpose." you are disgusting.
The sense of unity across the country that emerged out of the rubble. The shared sense of purpose, unlike anything I have felt before or since.

somebody should do another one, just to bring that magical feeling back

Labor Day belongs to working people!
It belongs to care workers who keep our families healthy, airport workers who keep us moving, janitors who keep our workplaces running, public service workers who keep our communities strong, & working people whose labor makes America work every day. #LaborDay

the Goblin soundtrack is what stood out most to me
A cracking tale of aliens and coffee with exploding bodies galore. Rather smartly ripping off Ridley Scott and Fulci it nails the Italian pulp brief nicely. 1980.

I like how this looks like a movie about three girls in their 20s who just don't get along but all have to live together after their grandmother leaves them her rambling mansion in her will, with Sarah McLachlan as their kooky aunt who's also the mayor.

remember an art youtuber (Marc Brunet?) talking about ways to make money as an artist and saying something like "and if you have no morals you can always draw nsfw".. as if working in a games industry that tries to get children addicted to gambling is the more worthy use of your talents lol
Seeing some of my fave "big-name" artists on BSKY joking that they might have to stoop to making erotic art to make a living has me miffed.

Erotic art has A) been artistic subject matter in all time periods and cultures, and B) Erotic artists are ALWAYS at the front of threats against the arts.

I speak often about the moral weight of disgust. In this instance of censorship, the president of the university offers no rationale for his decision beyond his revulsion at the story in question.

Adults who act this way cannot be permitted to participate in guiding society.
I am curious what the free speech purists who claim to be all about viewpoint diversity have to say about this one www.persuasion.community/p/i-taught-a...
I Taught a Short Story. My College Fired Me For It.
Academic censorship is very real.
