Sad Steps
Groping back to bed after a piss I part thick curtains, and am startled by The rapid clouds, the moon’s cleanliness.

I tend to buy albums with a few weeks delay because of how I listen to music but this album is a certified Banger. Got that good melodeath "whoosh" to it with plenty of meat on the bone. @wraithstormmetal.bsky.social more like....riffstorm. Gottem.

Randomly re-sharing one of the most crushing pieces of music that I know of. Not heavy, not metal, but will still unwind you like a kite's string and leave you drifting in a sea of melancholy. Just....impossibly beautiful. Warmth as a weapon.

I try to be the bigger man but sometimes I just can't help allowing myself some schadenfreude.

Me: "user needs X!"
PM: "no way they need X"
go talk to the user together, the FIRST thing they say is "we really really need X, please give us X"

STOP DOUBTING ME, I KNOW WHAT I'M DOING UNLIKE YOU

Sometimes I wake up and I physically can't bring myself to open my inbox because I know there's so much stress and work waiting in there. This is healthy, right?

Reading John M. Ford's The Last Hot Time and it's just Shadowrun but written well? Hell yeah

Following up from @allieinchains.bsky.social's list, here's my list of Midnight Lightning Steel Power Metal And Also A Bunch Of Prog Power
September 29, 2026 at 4:19 PM
Banger list. Pure midnight lightning steel.
My Top 30 Power Metal albums of any era, style, region or genre overlap. Just fucking power metal as a whole.

30 albums I'd die for

30 albums to test if you really "don't like power metal" or if you just heard some BS meme band that doesn't even sound like real power metal

One of the most underrated bands I know. If you ever want to get a kind of exquisite, scintillating sort of sad, with just enough light in there to make it hurt that much more, these are the guys for you. Exceptional.

Happens to be one of my favorite essays I've written! And since I've written it, I've found more and more examples of works working against the underlying privileging of "center" over "periphery.

Not finishing novels you don't enjoy is the sign of a mature, discerning and healthy reader, actually. If you feel even a little bit of guilt over it - do not.

God I am just LIVING for the M. John Harrison Renaissance, truly. I remember rambling about Light and Viriconium to anyone who would listen and just being incoherently enthused when I first read Nova Swing. And now everyone is singing his praises alongside me, it feels so good.

The faster you learn that philosophical ideas are tools to be combined rather than proof-complete closed systems, you can actually start using philosophy properly.

20 years since we lost one of the best and most underrated writers of SFF and beyond. Still CRIMINALLY underread. Go read Growing Up Weightless, PLEASE

I was so skeptical and hesitant coming into this release but The Ocean still have the juice. The lineup change was the best thing they could have done and Lane Shi is such an amazing vocalist.
