Tanda of the Week

This one has to be one of my favorites! It's perfectly uptempo and strong without being too crazy. It's very danceable and will allow you to express your rhythmicality and different dynamics nicely. Remember to breathe between songs!

Osmar Maderna's orchestra and the arrangements are of very high quality, and I'll try to fit this tanda in my sets every now and then. Every three years or so.

I know I just shared the Carlos Di Sarli & Mario Pomar tanda, but I just had to do this one after listening to Di Sarli on vinyl.

This week I'll share the first tanda of Di Sarli with singer Mario Pomar! Their discography offers songs for a good three to four tandas, and I'll start here with some of the biggest classics.

When I'm DJing I mostly play - and create tandas - one song at a time. Often I'm asked around the 4th song of the tanda what is the next tanda, and my answer is "I don't know! Ask me at the end of the cortina."

As one of the things we are missing in tango music is more female singers, I thought it'd be a good chance to have a look at Romántica Milonguero, an orchestra with plenty of recordings and popularity in milongas, and singers include Roberto Minondi, Marisol Martinez, Antonella Alfonso.....

12/2026 Romántica Milonguero - modern orchestra / traditional tango tanda

"I chose these songs because of the female singer and knowing they were recorded by a certain few orchestras. But I wasn't aware of what I found out as I looked into the songs closer!"

I actually improvised two Troilo/Fiorentino tandas during my last set. Here's the first one, which I played as the 5th tanda of the night. Rightfully so, it is a very nostalgic Buenos Aires & tango centered tanda perfect to get dancers in the mood.
