After watching a lot of classic British Top Gear, I realized I'm the James May of every friend group I've been in:
- deep knowledge on very specific topics
- usually the slowest driver
- regularly exaggerating my aviation knowledge, often to detrimental effect

As important as it is to have a writing community, I think above all else all writers should have a hobby that is inherently collaborative. Something you can't do without other people, that has you meeting new people all the time, like a sport or a band. So you leave the echo chamber of your mind.

Google does this to reduce clicks out of their experience, BTW. That's an important metric to a lot of these companies, so you can really screw with them by bypassing them completely and reading the piece here:
