it's not enough to simply know what’s happening in the world outside our classrooms, we should be able to speak to if & how systemic racism, structural inequality, political & religious oppression directly impact our students.

Teaching "about" is not the same as teaching "how to" - adults absolutely get the difference when it comes to sex ed but so many conflate the two approaches when it come to AI.

And yet, teaching in the last 5-10 years has become so dramatically different that it’s hard to believe it’s even the same (one) job.

Kindergarten has become first grade. Children are expected to leave K reading basic texts and writing sentences.
If success is strictly defined as such, there is no reason to expect K teachers to offer play, art, social interaction. But 3rd grade teacher like me are dealing with the fallout.
