Thrilled and honored to be a guest writer for the NSFW edition of the @finalfrontierzine.bsky.social ! Here's a sneak peek of my piece, I really was pushing the limits of my word count for this one. We're so close to hitting the final stretch goal so if you've been sitting on the fence, hop on over!
The thing in the bulb was awake. A slow, silvery plume of bubbles rose up from the luminous depths of the vessel. They made a low sound, like a dream of drowning, and Wolfwood's throat closed around a scream before it could escape. Something had emerged from the feathery ball, and it was looking at him with a pair of bright blue eyes. Wolfwood's response was very practical, for a man serving a sentence for a crime he did not commit on an automated prison barge with no hope of escape or release. He bolted. Pure adrenaline hurled him back up the stairs, his feet barely touching the risers. He rounded the corner and flew down the gangway, certain that the thing was even now slithering out of its bulb and oozing after him. He did not stop until he smacked into the backside of the access hatch, and he hung onto the bars, coughing for air. The months of cryosleep were not compatible with a 50-yard dash. Once he caught his breath, he would slip onto the other side of the passage, safe in the sterile white womb of his prison, and then things would... they would... A thing for which I am always unprepared is what commonplace relics of my youth are now mystifying artifacts to those who missed that particular window. And are great curiosities but obscure even just after a generation. Last con an artist earnestly asked us to describe what sticker books were like.

I'm a classical music buff so I'm very partial to Prokofiev's Sleigh Ride. It was part of the trade test music when BBC Two was launched and I just loved listening to it there. If you hear any of them too often they drive you nuts. As a child I found Donny Osmond's Christmas songs particularly distressing, but you grin and bear it for the love of Christmas.

I was enjoying tales of arise a lot more when the characters were still problematic (except for Kisara who's always been nauseatingly perfect) & did not stand around having increasingly unnatural conversations about hatred and privilege while sounding like they ate six tumblr accounts for breakfast

Remember your favorite creator possibly might be struggling with imposter syndrome and doubt and this timeline sucks.. so if you find yourself thinking “wow I really relate to this persons work” or that persons work gives you joy, you should probably tell them. It’s a hard time to be a creative.
