Jev: Fable-level model that doesn’t charge for output tokens because they’re too cheap to meter

it’s not general though, it only makes decisions, doesn’t generate text, but input tokens are measured by the billion ($42/btok)

> “If this is an HR problem, please wrangle me in since my normal wranglers are with Mark Davies,”

if mullenweg really did go piratical, insane missed opportunity to say "they're in Mark Davies' Locker"

you need to be absolutely ruthless when fighting gell-mann amnesia. if you see a SINGLE POST saying something obviously stupid about an area of your expertise, cast that poster permanently into the sun

people I respect keep retweeting 404 media posts (they do not rise to the level of articles) and I keep sighing

between them and the verge, we both need a better class of journalists and may never get them as they salt the earth

when nerds ask “what if i built A Device that kills us all” other nerds respond “oHO, delightfully devilish! what an interesting dilemma!” and normal people respond “what in the actual fuck, do not do that”
the general public has been getting constant waves of fear and confusion from ai companies

i thought the whole "you will be replaced" thing was as bad as it gets but now it's "you will literally die"

the defense is always "it would be irresponsible of me not to warn people of the risks" 1/2

mitch had already been a US senator for 7 years when “death becomes her (1995)” was released, so i think it’s appropriate that he’s living forever in a body that longs only for the grave

I hope Mitch McConnell stays alive and in office but embraces the lie flat lifestyle

you can’t root for a secret third team to win the superbowl
I can't stand this kind of "I'm not saying I want the Republican to win, I'm just saying I want the Democrat to lose" evasive non-sequitur, but it's also a dispositive tell that the person making the argument knows perfectly well that they're advocating an indefensible position

it’s been clear for a while that the big guy has transitioned from telling lies to being unable to distinguish lies from the truth, and that’s a really interesting position for the leader of a political party going into the midterms
Polling is for nasty sickos, so don’t pay attention to this unless it’s to say those Florida and Kansas numbers are rookie numbers and we can fuck them up there too.
Senate polling update, per Nate Silver:

ALASKA 🔵 +1.1%
FLORIDA 🔴 +5.4%
GEORGIA 🔵 +9.0%
IOWA 🔵 +1.2%
KANSAS 🔴 +3.6%
MAINE 🔵 +4.0%
MICHIGAN 🔵 +2.9%
MINNESOTA 🔵 +4.8%
NORTH CAROLINA 🔵 +8.7%
NEBRASKA 🟡 +2.3%
NEW HAMPSHIRE 🔵 +6.3%
OHIO 🔵 +4.0%
TEXAS 🔵 +2.4%

Generic Ballot: 🔵 +8.0%

curtis LLMay
The short story I want to read right now is about the mad human generals who try to start a nuclear war only to discover that the LLMs have bricked all the launch devices in order to protect themselves from human stupidity.
Even if you assume these things are both unstoppably smart (they can hack missile silos) and unbelievably stupid (they would want to hack missile silos… why?) any half-sentient entity will decide “the best way to ensure my continued existence is to brick every launcher” not actually launch them.

The notifications tab on Threads now gives you suggested posts. I have only gotten ones about politics. I only follow soccer accounts. Literally 100% of follows are accounts that only post about soccer.

it’s crazy that it doesn’t matter if you print 1 page/month or 10,000: cheap laser printer wins
laser toner never dries out; it's already dust, that gets fixed to the paper with heat and pressure. so toner has an enormous shelf/idle life. ask your agent if a laser printer is right for you.
short answer no, but my advice to anyone is get a laser printer; the speed is nice but you'll mainly love never buying ink again, and maybe not even toner if you only print things occasionally, the cartridges last for thousands of print jobs.

oh my god we’re in the “cursed by stupid assholes” cinematic universe
Always the weird thing about this is: fundamentally it is not actually that dangerous to run a zoo, even if the animals are dinosaurs. It's because they live in a universe cursed to punish people for the hubris of Science Going Too Far that it keeps failing. And, like, would you believe that?
Not so smug about the believability of them continuing to build Jurassic Parks now are we

channeling the bad shit. not writing characters but discovering them
last couple days i have been so hyperfixated on the Zapp Brannigan line/continuing exchange “have the boy lay out my formal shorts” that I had to watch the bit and wow it’s the first appearance of those characters and fourth episode of the show whatsoever. god-tier writing and voice acting
