It’s October, that means it’s time for another 31 Days of Spooky Movies for Chewie, watching & quick-reviewing a movie a day. I’m gonna try to only do ones I haven’t seen, but if life gets in the way (and it do) I will absolutely watch Trick ‘r Treat again, don’t think I won’t #31DaysofSpooky
4. Backrooms (2026)
I am SO glad that director (and original creator of the Backrooms series) Kane Parsons and writer Will Soodik didn’t try to do a Backrooms lore movie or origin story or something for this. Just making it an element of the story was the best possible idea

3. Hereditary (2018)
I’m gonna get crucified for this, but I really *really* did not enjoy this movie. And not in the way I’m pretty sure you’re *supposed* to not enjoy it.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s well made and well acted. It’s not a *bad* movie in any technical sense

2. Lake Placid (1999)
A classic creature feature from the 90s! The characters really carry this one, with Oliver Platt & Brendan Gleeson doing most of the entertaining. Bridget Fonda is there as a city girl who risks life & limb to…stay away from her ex? Weird choice, but sure

1. Presence (2024)
A Soderbergh joint I’ve never heard of? What?
The concept is cool: the camera POV is always of a ghost in a house. A family moves in, it watches as drama unfolds and sometimes disrupts. It’s occasionally eerie but not scary or even all that spooky #31DaysofSpooky

So "COYOTE VS ACME" is excellent. On it's own it'd merely have been a standout comedy and the best of the "LOONEY TUNES"-adjacent project in decades; in wider context one of the best and most important movies of the year - hard to believe a studio ever made it, easy to see why they wanted to stop it
