Odd deposits / coating on a granite boulder near an old habitation site. No idea what this is and I didn’t mess with it too much. Some of it has flaked off into a small pile at the bottom. It doesn’t look like it was created by a natural process. Not lichen.

This is a western diamondback rattlesnake. I spotted this one this morning when I looked down and it was right next to my foot.
It chose to stay still and let me pass but it did glare at me a bit, I think.

It was too hot to go hiking this morning but I went anyway. Not irresponsibly hot, but hot nonetheless.

The best thing about buying vintage reel to reel tape from eBay is finding out what’s on the tapes. This seems to be German polka. Date on the case is 1976. Seller was in Hof, Germany. So vintage Cold War era bootleg German polka. I recorded and digitized it into Logic.
