I think the clubs are taking advantage of parents who are in turn more focused on their kids' team as a status symbol than whether their kid is a) having fun, b) learning life lessons, and c) developing as a player and person

A friend of mine moved his 4th grader from our 1st team to the 4th team at a MegaClub. Her team played right before my son's team today - the coach didn't even know the girls' names. "Number 11, you need to track back" etc. Frankly he was being a dick to a bunch of 9-10yo girls. Truly bizarre
What I truly don't understand is the parents whose kids play for the 6th team in a given age group at massive clubs - they never get attention, the coaches change every week, they never move up to the first team - yet they still pay a ton of money just so their kid can say they played for MegaClub™
Normally I try not to tell people how to parents but after 8 soccer games this weekend (including 2 reffed by my oldest) I would like to share my testimony as a veteran soccer parent:
