i've worked at places that were really strict and secure and would never let something like this even into developer builds, but also i've worked at a places where everyone in the department shared a single login to cloud services because the company was cheap

a lot of folks are asking how someone can do something so "stupid" as hard coding a secret token, and i'm telling you that you are holding software developers and companies on way too high a pedestal if you still think there's secure, quality code being sent out into the world
HaJ3FgupAm8RrDJW3MHgT9X7Ft27eVaD

What is that? That's a hard-coded API token that Flock cameras use to identify themselves and get OAuth credentials, which can then be used to talk to Flock's production servers. Like, anyone on the internet can probably do this right now.

obviously trying to stake out social problems as "addiction" is part of a process of medicalization that's not always helpful but fucking come on taylor, these are products explicitly designed to be compulsive and they haven't been about "chatting with your friends" for years
Can social media be addictive?

@taylorlorenz.bsky.social says no.

“You wanting to communicate and chat with your friends every day is not an addiction,” says Lorenz. “And to frame it that way is incredibly harmful and anti-science.”

Good writing in my view - while some commentary on here has framed Sheeran's justification as a demonstration of the hollowness of "neutrality", as a professional moral philosopher it is also what we in the business refer to as a "lie" and it may be helpful to refer to it as such
Ha ha ha Ed you cowardly hypocritical loser.

"I wrote the piece and Claude found the links relevant to my claims" is, even without the AI, such an admission of poor thinking and argumentation. your claims should emerge from the evidence!
Less shocking to me was reading this bit at the end, where Erickson - whose entire day-to-day job is just wanking out a bit of punditry once or twice a week - has handed much of that over to AI.

It’s Peter Falk’s birthday.
My favourite Columbo episode was when he came out of retirement to catch a 10yo murderer.

what's weird to me is how frequently people use AI to reproduce things that you can already easily obtain for free. like how many human made separation of powers infographics were already freely available on the internet via a 5 second google search?
