I think @amandamarcotte.bsky.social is really onto something here and that it's related to something @polphilpod.bsky.social has said in a few places; what collapsed was not liberalism, which in some ways is more strongly felt and committed to by more people than ever, but conservatism

What's striking about this piece is how many of the biggest voices on here, this bastion of progressive thought, are anti-alarmists themselves. Every one of them are men of course.

This is best and clearest analysis of how we ended up with two Trump presidencies. And what a relief to see someone finally say it! Lengthy, but worth the read.

i'm again reminded of american abortion bans: "doctors are sacred to treat women because of progressive fearmongering"

no they won't treat women because of the *explicit text of the law*
"Transgender rights activists are spreading misinformation about guidance that protects single-sex spaces by claiming it erodes trans people’s rights, the equalities regulator has said."

This government has made life dramatically harder for trans children and their families. The human costs are enormous. Cal is not the first parent I know that has made the gut wrenching decision to leave the country. Read this then start fighting for a world where trans kids can live and thrive.
