Co-creator of Wrapped In Plastic magazine. Author of books: Ominous Whoosh: A Wandering Mind Returns to Twin Peaks, The Essential Wrapped In Plastic, and Devious Dreams: Reimagining David Lynch's Mulholland Drive.
Just saw this at the local comic shop. Not sure there’s anything new in here, but it took me by surprise. Anyone know anything about it?

Doing some research for a new project and stumbled across this comment from Catherine Coulson. Made me feel good about that long-ago magazine....

"You guys are doing a huge service with Wrapped In Plastic. You’ve done a great job and kept the quality up. I love getting the magazine!"

A bit of trivia: Did you know that Rabbits, a short film originally made for David Lynch's website, was entirely re-shot for Inland Empire?

One version of Cooper never made it home. That's the tragedy. (Arguably, the Cooper who accepted who he was did make it home.)

Too bad this story is getting such a negative spin (but that's what gets you clicks). The *real* story is that Nolan selected Lost Highway and was ultimately complimentary to the film and to Lynch. A difficult fim doesn't mean a bad film.

I, for one, hope certain politicians live long lives, so that they face legal consequences or personal losses/discomforts (or some dim realization that history will paint them as villians) for the suffering they've inflicted upon others. I long for karmic payback.

@thornewip.bsky.social returns this week to discuss Sheriff Cable. We talk about his combative nature with Agent Desmond, question how much he truly knew about the fate of Teresa Banks and the drastic changes of his character from “Fire Walk With Me” to “Dale Cooper: My Life, My Tapes”.

SIGNED Devious Dreams: Reimagining David Lynch's Mulholland Drive by John Thorne (Paperback, NEW)
Puzzling and elusive, David Lynch ’s Mulholland Drive (2001) refuses easy interpretation. Critics have said the film is “outside logical explanation,” that it lacks “any semblance of rationality,” that “people who try to work out what is ‘really’ going on in it are wasting their time.” Given Mulholland Drive ’s unorthodox narrative—Is the story a dream? The visions of a dying mind? A depiction of

I believe this is one of Lynch's carefully framed shots. Note how the saw on the wall extends from Cable's head to Desmond's chest. Lynch is connecting them. It may simply be aesthetics, or may imply intent on Cable's part (violence, anger?). Lynch uses similar framing in many other shots.

Perusing Rotten Tomatoes & dumbfounded at how many mediocre reviews are listed as positive. Eg:
-You might not remember anything, but at least you’ll be entertained
-leaves you wondering who it is actually made for
-makes no attempt to be its own thing
-overcomes its pacing and derivative flaws

In #TwinPeaks discourse, the common spelling of Bob as "BOB" orginates from The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer. But nowhere in credits or scripts (or Lynch's Room to Dream) is Bob spelled in uppercase. (Notably, Frost's in-universe Secret History acknowledges Laura's diary and all-caps spelling.)
