What if instead of cosmic beings that erotically tortured people seeking the extremes of hedonism, Pinhead and the Cenobites appeared from their hell dimension to lecture deviants on the importance of safe sex, enthusiastic consent, and personal responsibility. Wouldn’t that be groundbreaking
What if Freddie wasn't a dream-traveling pedophile nightmare monster with knives for fingers, but a nice man who takes his daughter to the movies

So I usually present a pretty rosy view (and honestly in my personal life things are great and in my professional life they are looking up) but to be really real, I have been beating myself up a lot about my level of productivity all year because I am WRITING FULL TIME, I SHOULD DO ALL THE THINGS

Set aside the day to address editorial comments on a story from one venue and on a novelette for another

the story had like three comments and one was just a typo

the novelette had over twenty comments but most were just telling me how great I am

I love getting all my work done in an hour

The proper response to being upset about the way a story is written is to write a story of your own that does it RIGHT, be it direct fanfic (“fix-it fic”) or an original that uses similar materials in different ways

The latter is like a fifth of my fiction!
I'm not going to get into it on Threads because I'm not a masochist, but sending your editorial notes to an author for a trad pub book that's already published is insane behaviour. The author vetted it, their editor did, a copyeditor, a proofreader...the book is written the way it is for a reason.

Well, all else aside, at least I’m cute, so that’s something

4,250 words, and that's a draft of "Captain Graydeon the Phlogistonic Man," a new SF story that turned out better than I'd hoped!

I even resisted my typical impulse to explain every single little thing and allowed some space for implication and inference

I had soooo much fun with this one, got to play with some of my favorite Mythos stuff and slip in a little of the ol' class warfare

Ahead of @fantasyflightgames.bsky.social's upcoming scenario pack Traces to Nowhere, meet the scions of the Meiger and Husserl families in Alike Indignity, a new series written by @timpratt.org with narration by Todd Menesses.

Wrote a couple of book reviews. (Actual long ones, not my usual little paragraphs) I still remember how!

Also took some notes for a workshop I’m running in January, vague ideas coalescing into something resembling a plan!

Years ago me and my son watched Fall, a movie about climbers who get trapped atop an abandoned radio tower with horrible results

When he heard there was a Fall 2 movie my kid deadpanned, “Wow, I can’t believe they’d climb up there again after what happened the first time”

We raised him right

Day 1: watched the latest season of the Creep Tapes (I know, not a movie, but a movie spinoff and movie length!)

Day 2: Jacob’s Ladder, an old favorite, love the horrific vision of New York and the monster designs

Day 3: Finally watched Exhuma and liked it a lot, modern folk horror
This is kinda unhinged, but what if we all watch 1 horror movie a day for the month of October, and then chat about it here online? Not fight to the death style. Just I saw x,y,z movie and I liked this about it? Or even just tap in, yes, I saw that today and tomorrow I'm going to watch x,y,z. cont

Oakland more than SF proper in my experience, at least in terms of density
do you think seattle, sf, or nyc most deserves the title of "tgirl capitol of the united states"
