The book has been out since May ’26, but it is never too late to promote it a little bit.

It was surreal to be on @cnnipr.bsky.social last night talking about the surging politics of housing in Europe.

The main point being that when people's most basic needs are not met, governments will pay the price. The solution being: decommodify housing.

Well, I for one am an economist who supports rent controls! Here’s why 🧵:
Markets only work well if:
-buyers & sellers have roughly equal power
-producers respond to price signals & expand supply in response to scarcity
-buyers can walk away if prices get too high
Ash Sarkar: "The one thing the govt could do to improve the lives of young people is introduce some rent controls"

Govt minister Jonathan Reynolds: "No economist supports rent controls"

There you have it. Are you a young person trapped paying exorbitant rent? The Labour govt says f**k you.

SCOOP: 404 Media placed a tracking device in a shipment of rare books to see which AI company was buying it. What did we find? It ended up at an Amazon facility where Amazon scans and destroys books.

Yes. This is literally the logo outside the Amazon warehouse door. Read now:

A major loss. Michael was tireless, intellectually curious, full of energy, with a huge drive to educate. He was generous with time and ideas; always full of questions. He was especially kind to junior colleagues, and unfailingly supportive of other people’s projects.

May his memory be a blessing.
Really sad to hear of the passing of Prof Michael Edwards. He was a tireless advocate of a planning system that works for all. He was always incredibly generous with his time and knowledge and was an early adopter of social media to promote practice. Thoughts are with friends and family 🙏🏻
