The oyster-shucking, baseball-playing, hands-working-with men have arrived on the 2026 political scene, and I have thoughts.

When "authenticity" means "dudes"
As 2026 approaches, can we political reporters please not forget every damn thing we learned just last year for the love of God

Came out of the movie thinking "man the You Can See Everything score rules" and then realized it just kind of took the whole Jonny Greenwood vibe and then also [whispers] ripped a riff straight out of Conclave.

Lololol AI is Feminist Actually is a hell of an argument
It’s hard to decide what part of this story on Marissa Mayer’s new startup is most loathsome, but this “women need a wife or, in other words, a digital servant” construction makes me want to flip over an actual table www.nytimes.com/2026/10/25/s...

Saying it now:

1) the tidal wave of “You Can See Everything” discourse is too big.

2) …which means the inevitable backlash to the movie will be INSUFFERABLE.

An excellent thread on all Trump’s chatter about hot male Senate candidates…
I’ve been doing loads of interviews about Trump’s repeated comments about how attractive some male Senate candidates are, so I thought I’d put my understanding of what’s going on in one place.
tl;dr: it’s all about reaffirming gender hierarchies, and Trump says weird stuff.

Honestly Nathan Fielder is a hell of an interviewer

Farm country has beef with Trump as midterms approach
President Trump's attempts to bring beef prices down has potentially backfired politically in several key states.

Ok at this point it feels like a show of dominance on Trump’s part — I can say what I want about you and what’ll you do?
Trump: "I'm studying his body. I've never studied the body of a man before. It's not my thing. Nothing wrong with it, of course. But it's never been my thing. But I looked at his ass. I said, 'His ass, shit, it's like a pile of muscle.' Then I looked at his legs and I said, 'Man, his feet are big.'"

I deeply admire @titonka.bsky.social’s writing, reporting and POV. This is a Substack worth subscribing to. The way politics treats gender and constant overt misogyny should drive us all crazy. She calls it all out, and more!
A belated take on Shane Gillis, as well as the ridiculous "STEER" and "QUEER" meme and of course JD Vance calling someone gay as an insult. daniellekurtzleben.substack.com/p/on-seinfel...

genuinely think that chartbeat and real-time audience traffic insight dashboards are one of the worst things to happen to the media industry. it found out what people read and wanted and public trust has pretty much only sharply declined since then
