Video editor. Nebraskan/East Anglian, so possibly inclined towards flat lands. Once talked about cinema on the radio, but now mainly take photos with prisms and pinholes and polaroids. Being kept for my decorative seed head.

A stones throw from Cambridge.
Would my younger self be pleased with the older version? Well, I’ve cut up the vegetables for tonight’s vegetable themed spread to have with my partner while we watch the Gardener’s World Allotment Special, so as long as I’m also a stunt man, and this was after a day of stunting, he’d be happy.

A great late summer bumble bee Falstaffs its way into my home office. "the King has forgotten me" he buzzed, bumping into the door.

To balance out the post about the journalist parent using the internet to track her son at university - yesterday I, a 56 year old man, again bemoaned my colour blindness, and my mother lovingly and protectively, texted me a google list of colour blind artists.

This is like a book of poems
How many pairs of scissors did my mother need in her sewing box? Includes two pairs of pinking shears. I suspect many were hand me downs from my grandmothers. Not quite sure what to do with them all.

This is like two forms of punctuation meeting outside the usual confines of a sentence.
What a truly excellent series of acting choices this fifty seconds of television presents…

Virginia Woolf’s foreword to the catalogue of Vanessa Bell’s solo painting exhibition of 1930.

Waiting a whole week for video footage for a single urgent edit because my client refuses to learn how to use WeTransfer and I have to wait for them to drive this way again.

I wish the people who hired me also feared me a little more. Not fear I’d get angry, but that I’d stop working for them.

What scene makes you emotional no matter how many times you've seen it?

(alt text - A Canterbury Tale, in particular the barely even whispered “why?” when Alison Smith finds out her late fiancé’s father is asking for her. Just the right balance of hope and fear)

Everything I have done in my life since 1985 has probably been an attempt to be this song. To dress like it, to walk like it, to see like it, and to sound like it:

Fresh passport photos taken. All in all I’ve luckily aged well, though at some point my eyes have been replaced by haunted cathedrals either side of my nose.

The Essex coast has had the SS Richard Montgomery for too long! It’s time for another part of the country to host the wreckage. Hoist it out and helicopter it elsewhere. Job creation as tourism will bloom around it. Communities will thrive.

Got a birthday card design, though it’s only good for one particular celebration.

Surprised to find the atmospheric St John’s in Duxford still open as the sun went down. A few photos of its light filled, empty as a trap, interior, with a prism under the lens. But I’ve done this before…

So I photographed some cows on the cycle home, and I’ve added those.

Vanessa Bell goes to the ballet.

Picasso! Satie! Cocteau! This is like the end of the avengers film when all the heroes come out of the portals.

From the BBC documentary on the Bayeux tapestry. I love that this is a dance, then it becomes a forensic cop show, then it’s a dance again. The rhythm of it. Lovely as he is we don’t need Michael Palin’s narration.

Brilliant camera work and editing here as well. Leaving the wide shot until last.

There was just a smidgen of it shown in this BBC2 documentary, but I love the idea that the town of Bayeux may have lined the streets to applaud the tapestry as it left for London.

It’s late summer run complete they’re tearing down the Funfayre behind my house. Great towers of lights are dismantled in next to no time. All the men look like they’ve either a song or graffiti written about them

Rather wonderfully this is the bare bones of the dismantled Hook-a-Duck attraction.

Left a cinnamon roll dough to rise and it’s been too successful, eating up the doctor, the town police, and a whole cinema of reckless rock and roll teenagers. You’re next…..you’re next!

The first few seconds of the universe reflected in a car park puddle.

(Funfayre ride, just after a thunderstorm had passed overhead)

“What’s your keep fit regime?”

“Well, I had to run home because there was a thunderstorm and I’d left a biography of Vanessa Bell outside
on the garden table”

Bit of a morose time, but when, on my evening walk, I lean over the wall around Audley End orchard there’s a heady aroma of windfalls fermenting - vanilla and custard and tart early cider.

They’ve still left the gate to the private unlocked. It is tempting to explore.

Still reading the Vanessa Bell/Bloomsbury book - and there used to be a lot more using the quiet of Christmas Day to write letters to friends. This seems a better use of the evening: music and maybe wine, and writing short letters to those I still know.
Well, I’ve the day off to read, and I set out my books, and maps, and headphones. I pop back inside for a moment..

I’ve come back to this. I’m surprised he hasn’t also drunk all my waiting coffee.
