I like looking at birds, but they don't like looking at me
the horses are feral descendants colonial-era escapees, and they are invasive in the ecosystems they reside in. blm is forbidden from culling them directly because of a stupid as hell nixon law, so they keep the excess horses penned in concentration camps until they are sold for a few bucks or die

do things get better? i feel as though my whole life i’ve chased a profession that’s been doomed to an alleyway murder from the moment of its inception. i want to be optimistic for the future but it feels like i am forced to aspire to a world where things are only taken away
Breaking News: The Trump administration moved to open the habitats of imperiled animals to farming, drilling, mining and other development. Environmentalists characterized it as the most severe erosion of protections for wildlife in half a century. www.nytimes.com/2026/07/10/c...

don't do this. you're not some valiant freedom fighter for planting bamboo, honeysuckle, or any know invasive plant around future data center sites. construction companies won't care nearly as much as you think.

not to mention that this poster was likely AI generated.

now imagine, if you will, that i am the itty bitty tree swallow staring at you from my bird box that overlooks the nearby wetland

western meadowlarks are the worst thing to happen to me since cackling geese. i heard it. i know i did. but im not convinced that these are even the same individual meadowlarks that were singing. only one WEME was reported.

i have been obsessed with monk parakeets since i found out about their wacky hijinks in the US. they’ve begun popping up in gary, and i recently went out to see their small and flammable nest on a substation for myself. they are as fascinating as they are loud. probably my “favorite” exotic species

the prairie chickens (much like bison) bore the brunt of the white colonization of north america's prairies. repubs/ranchers would love to "finish the job", but the ESA forces them to protect the "unproductive" and "empty" tallgrass prairies the grouse rely on to survive

now imagine that i am the joyful buck jumping over the poorly maintained exclosure and that i am now able to browse on all of the vulnerable understory herbaceous plants and tree saplings

had a swell mlk day. the glass sunroof screen on my junk car was viciously torn off by the powerful gales of northern indiana. my car roof now violently shakes when i drive any faster than 45 mph. can’t wait for the worn-down breaks to eventually give out and kill me in a horrific car crash

its amazing how simply not having an ugly gray splotch on its head makes the eurasian tree sparrow much prettier and sightly that the goblin-esque house sparrows it chooses to flock with. it can do so much better than them 🪶

There were two White- breasted Nuthatches going up and down this tree, but not together. This one took the time to be cute for a minute. 🪶

its a new year, so the only rational thing to do is shoddily rank all 264 wild and feral #birds that have had the displeasure of crossing me. this list is highly emotional, vibes-based, and will look fundamentally different next week. bird names in alt

something i’ve learned over my many years of labor and scholarship is that i am not good at starting things. new social media is no exception.
cold turkey resolutions are not my cup of tea, but i ought to make an exception for twitter and get into the rhythm of using blsky or no alternative at all

the blackburnian warbler, despite being named after a person, has a truly befitting name. i look at this creature and think to myself "yeah, they got that one right." truly a perfect specimen 🪶

a true american patriot selflessly performing civilian law enforcement while lafayette's WOKE police (who let a man that pulled a gun on protestors walk free) are too LIBERAL and VAXXED to patrol our lawless park bike paths. god bless white-crowned sparrows
