A common collapse pattern may be success addiction.

A company wins with one model, enjoys years of dominance, and starts treating that old winning line as universal truth. By the time the market changes, the former edge has become a liability.

Companies do not always collapse because they lack assets.

Often the failure is decision timing: defending when they should attack, expanding when they should consolidate, protecting obsolete assets, and cutting the future too early.

A strong hand can still lose if the situation is misread.

Many collapses are not caused by weak starting hands.

Blockbuster had stores and online traction. BlackBerry had enterprise trust and BBM. Japanese manufacturing still has world-class machines.

The failure pattern is operational: good assets, wrong adaptation, late correction.

A fascinating research theme: companies that had enough resources, technology, talent, market position, and time to survive—but still collapsed through poor decisions.

The lesson is not “they were weak.” It is: even strong hands can lose if the operation and decision process are wrong.

Good tools are not enough.

Technology, AI, logistics, trading, and poker all show the same pattern: value depends on operation. Who can use it, judge it, correct failures, and pass the process on? Without that layer, even excellent tools become fragile.

Japan’s problem may not be a simple lack of technology.

The machines, drawings, and accumulated know-how may still exist. But if the people who can judge quality, read inspection reports, connect tolerances to real production, and pass that knowledge on disappear, the technology becomes hollow.

A lot of useful tools are already around us, but remain invisible until we actively look for them. Curiosity, asking questions, reaching out, and trying things are often the real unlock conditions. Agency expands the set of tools you can even see. #learning #agency

I’m treating human interaction like poker: I don’t try to alter the cards I’m dealt. I evaluate the hand, the board, and the cost of continuing, then decide quickly. Bad cards aren’t failure; overinvesting after recognizing them is. #DecisionMaking #Poker

I’m reframing livestreams as an exit-discipline test. The goal isn’t to find a perfect community. It’s to notice negative EV—annoyance, friction, zero value—and leave instantly without explanation. The metric is exit latency, not endurance. #DecisionMaking #EV

My current operating rule in Japan is simple: minimize unnecessary human contact and maximize uninterrupted work. Every interaction has a coordination and recovery cost. If I can finish it alone with AI, I do. Human contact is reserved for clear positive-EV cases. #DecisionMaking

Success in one domain can quietly become a belief in general superiority. A strong poker player may manage risk well at the table yet remain a novice in business, where feedback, leverage and counterparty risk differ. Success proves skill, not the scope of that skill. #DecisionMaking

Donald Crowhurst was not trapped all at once. He repeatedly rejected smaller losses: withdrawal, financial damage, disqualification, confession. Each attempt to avoid one loss destroyed another exit. Catastrophe emerged from refusing to realize losses while exits still existed. #DecisionMaking

Big change does not need to start big. Small actions, repeated long enough, can accumulate, spread, and eventually reshape a system. But if the first small action never happens, nothing compounds and the status quo simply persists. #Agency #SocialChange
September 4, 2026 at 8:16 AM
Seeing a problem is not the same as changing it. Complaining, analyzing, or waiting for others to act changes nothing by itself. You may not be able to change the whole system alone, but you can still change your own choices, actions, and resource allocation. #Agency #DecisionMaking

Bad institutions do not emerge outside society. They survive inside the incentives, attention and selection pressures society creates. If chronic failures remain politically cheap to ignore, the system learns to ignore them. Institutional quality is partly a feedback loop. #SocialDynamics
September 4, 2026 at 8:13 AM
People criticize welfare systems for failing to find those who never apply. Yet ordinary people do something similar: they help visible distress and miss severe suffering that stays out of sight. Both systems react better to observed problems than hidden ones. #SocialDynamics
September 4, 2026 at 8:04 AM
Visible minor distress often gets help faster than severe suffering hidden from view. The cruel part is that greater severity can reduce the ability to go outside, speak, or ask for help at all. Observed rescue cases are therefore a biased sample. #SocialDynamics
September 4, 2026 at 7:59 AM
People rarely investigate hidden suffering deeply enough to help. They respond to visible, concrete problems. Support often goes not to whoever hurts most, but to whoever makes the problem easy to see and understand. #SocialDynamics #DecisionMaking
September 4, 2026 at 7:55 AM
Historical failures suggest an interesting possibility: the real divider may not be ability, but where people draw the line around what they believe they can do. Exceptional actors often keep searching for something they can still influence. #DecisionMaking #History
September 2, 2026 at 7:35 PM
A curious community pattern: people readily join a poker Discord, but almost nobody keeps playing because their attention keeps flowing back to livestreams. The problem may not be interest, but attention capture. Move one central person, and the group may follow. #SocialPsychology #Networks

Building and shipping my own game changed how I see “experts.” A lot of things look extraordinary from the outside, then you try them and realize the technical barrier was smaller than the image suggested. Distribution and perception are real skills too. #indiedev

More customers is not always better. I’d rather serve a smaller group that truly uses the product, pays for value, and gives useful feedback than chase mass traffic. Product quality matters, but customer selection is a separate business skill. #indiedev #business

Building a game in 3 days taught me something: product quality and the ability to sell are separate skills. A great product nobody understands can lose to an average one with clear messaging, confidence, and distribution. Building is only half the job. #indiedev #gamedev
