Us? We get Ryan Walters.

I've been teaching in Oklahoma City for 30+ years. I THOUGHT I had seen it all.

This particular cardinal is apparently going through it. I don't have a great shot of her face because she comes all the way into the feeder to eat, but she's incredibly scruffy. I've never seen a cardinal missing so much of her little peaked cap before.

Finally fixed and refilled my camera bird feeder after months of it being down, and it immediately rewarded me with a salacious cardinal upskirt shot.

It is a huge shame to see so much language attributing agency, intent and thought to a software program, when all that should be attributed to the humans who designed a dangerously clumsy and broken looping LLM.

Means the companies won't be held accountable for designing a bad product

Spoke to a bunch of 70- and 80-year olds at my mom's book club (!) about AI, and what struck me was that they were *acutely* aware of, and frustrated with, the failures of mainstream news coverage to explain exactly what this tech is, what it can and cannot do, and what the risks are.
Over at the newsletter I wrote about the media's total failure to responsibly cover batshit claims that software has gained human-level awareness and will soon kill us all
AI Doomsday Panic Is Completely Out Of Control
The press obsession with software-powered doomsday is a misdirection overshadowing a much deadlier reality: our public interest regulators no longer function.

This to me is maybe the most maddening comprehension failure in politics now.
Journalists & politicians should make clear that this is a false distinction: runaway climate change obviously does & will make groceries, home insurance & electricity, among other things, more expensive, never mind the cost—ultimately reflected in higher taxes—of disaster relief

Creators of 'The Magic School Bus,' authors Joanna Cole and illustrator Bruce Degen, are deceased. I was not able to reach their family members. 'The Magic School Bus' publisher, Scholastic, is also a co-producer of a movie version in development. No one from Scholastic responded to inquiries.

NEW by me: When I saw that the White House had stolen 'The Magic School Bus' to promote its racist ICE deportations, I could not be quiet. The books' publisher, Scholastic, has remained noticeably silent, while others like Hasbro and Tetris have clapped back.

BREAKING:

After the Washington Post fired me last year for speaking the truth in the wake of the Charlie Kirk killing, I fought back.

And I'm happy to announce: I won my case against the Washington Post.

They have been ordered to reinstate me immediately.

a specific thing I like about this is the knowledge worker unemployment prediction, coming as it does alongside basically weekly announcements from the big labs of their models doing stupid shit because they didn't have competent humans steering and monitoring them
New from us:

Anthropic just published scenarios for AI’s possible economic impacts, which range from minimal, to explosive GDP growth of 15% by 2030 as knowledge-worker unemployment hits 18%.

I sat down with their co-founder Jack Clark to pick his brains on how they’re thinking about all of this.

This thread about someone trying to hijack convention panels to get authors to "collaborate" (meaning "How about you write this story I had AI generate the idea for, and we'll share the credit"), have I ever told you about the time I watched someone hit up George Lucas with The Worst Collab Pitch? 🧵
1. So, at the Worldcon this year there was a person who was going from panel to panel, bothering panelists by trying to get them to "collaborate" with them on a project and sliding the proposed project to them on a piece of paper. Folks, I cannot stress to you how obnoxious this sort of thing is.
