Hm if you did like a POV tiktok (like: POV: cats really like you) in Latin, would it be governed by indirect speech or would POV be some kind of subordinated clause like “ut dicitur”

I cannot recommend this book highly enough. Excellently-curated, entertaining, and legible stories with genuinely helpful notes that aid reading fluency, without succumbing to over-grammarliness. I wish I had the flexibility to read this with my 4’s!

So, um... this is bad. Really bad. I looked at the letters that were translated by the AI, and the very first one I found was almost entirely hallucination. Thread:
The new project mapping 7,000+ ancient letters is impressive: romanletters.org . The database & geolocation (although noting Pleiades rather than just AWMC would be nice) are great. But I absolutely cannot get over use of AI—however transparent—for translation.

🚨 Value human translators 🚨

I made another blog post for the Pliny haters. This one's about his omissions of esse, which are neither very unusual nor very challenging for students, but people need something to complain about I guess

Today we were talking about historical Latin pronunciations as we sang Orientis Partibus for the Feast of the Ass. I used the English “vivat Regina” as an example. So at the end of class, a girl goes, “man I love Latin. What other class has you talking about Ass and Reginas?”
